PFC 01 compound pads on stoptech ST60 - super noisy
As above, I had PFC 01 pads fitted to my front brakes (Stoptech ST60).
They are seriously noisy - am used to a bit of race pad squeak on other cars but these sound more like a car that has run through its brake pads entirely! The car stops ok but not sure this is right. Am also getting quite a rumbling noise on high speed braking - had decided that this was due to the old (standard) pads being toasted but has not gone away with the pad change. Anyone have experience and could give a view? |

Are you saying they are noisy on the street? If so, that is to be expected as it is a race pad. You are running them in abrasive mode at low speeds like that, and the side effects will be accelerated rotor wear, high dust, and noise. Not sure why you would run these on the street. If they're noisy like that on the track, probably one of two things: either you're not getting enough heat in the brakes (see above) or there is old pad material on the rotors -- or both.

Thanks.
Was getting heavy rumbling from the setup on hard braking with the stock Stoptech pads. Was at the Nurburgring and didn't want to have any confidence issues. Had the brakes checked at Schirmer Racing (m3 specialist) and the mechanic just thought that the stock pads are not much use other than for street driving. He reckoned (tho English not great) that new pads would solve the problem and the rumbling would clear after a lap (assume as old deposits were cleared from discs). All they had at 3pm on a Saturday was the PFC 01s. I did 4 laps of the ring and then a 400 mile run home including braking from 145mph ish on the Autobahn a few times and I still had the rumble on high speed braking. The feel is better with the new pads however. Wondering if to persevere or if I need someone to look at this? |

The serial / model no for the pads are:
7793 01 18 44 The car went to BMW for a service a few months back and I had a brake vibration issue afterwards for about 150 miles (the car doesn't do many miles). It looked like the pads had stuck to the disc a bit and had left some material on the disc. Not sure if they used something particular aggressive to clean the wheels and that contributed. |
