Frustration with key memories

I always thought that if you open car with a KEY 1 and make all settings and open car with KEY 2 and make all settings (color lightnings etc.) those settings will be retrieved next time you open the car with these keys. But no...it does not work like that.
What am I doing wrong here. KEY 1 one is my wife's and KEY 2 is for me. When I open the car with KEY 2 I assumed seats, lightning etc will switch to my previously set preferences. And then when my wife use her KEY 1 it should go back to her settings. Why is this so hard, why does it not work like that?

Maybe check in idrive settings on last seat memory or something to that affect? Not sure if that helps. I'm the only driver and when I use my primary key it is set to my desired settings. When I use the other key all settings are at default.

Yes, try that and see if anything changes.

Also create/save a new profile for key #2.
Our two keys work fine, in general, regarding remembering settings. I intentionally have orange lighting vs blue so that it's easy to tell which settings are active when the car is unlocked.

Yep, at least for me. As I mentioned, I can easily tell if my settings are active because my ambient lighting is orange vs blue for my wife.
That and the fact the the seat moves to my setting when I unlock the car even though her key is also in proximity. My radio/sat presets are also diff from hers.

In order to recall settings from the specific key, you have to hold the DRIVER SIDE door handle - this seems to be something not obvious in the manual and a lot of people don't know. If you unlock the door with the passenger side door handle, the car will not read your key's settings and remain in the existing settings.
