Is a production week assigned by the Allocation?
Quick question.
My dealer received 1/24 of the 18' M3 allocations. They've got my ED order in, though when calling Genius and BMW NA, the system shows pretty much nothing other than my name and the dealer/SA i'm working with. I'm told this is because ordering guide/etc hasn't been released, which I understand. However, my SA told me my car will be built the first week of September. How does he know this? I do have a production number which I believe is assigned to my allocation, but again BMW NA/Genius system barely shows anything. So regarding my build 'week' could he have been guessing? Or does he know based on the Allocation info they were given? I know some of the veterans on the board are tired of these questions and jus want us all to sit quiet/be pretty till things are released, but theres a reason for the question: We really need to pick it up the week of Sept 18th. Nothing is booked yet, but due to schedules I really need this week to be the ED delivery date. Build of first week of Sept should allow for that, but the problem is we're having trouble picking a color. We had it narrowed down between Sakhir and Black. We saw a Sakhir M4 vert' at the dealer this weekend and really aren't too sure its for us. Black I typically love, but with the competition pkg I feel like it just hides too much of the lines and badges/grille blend right in... so my first love is what I presume will be Priority 1 Individual, Tanzanite Blue. Question is, can they paint it this color and still meet my Sept 18th goal. My gut says no if my production week is the first week of September. But, if its somehow possible I wanna figure it out. |

BMWNA Ordering specialist told your dealer the estimated production date.
I would suggest that you call/email the ED department directly once the Guides are released to find out what can be done about your ED dates. Quote:

Interesting...I had heard September from my dealer as well, but no documentation or anything to support that from their end.
I would suggest talking to your dealer and ask him exactly where he was getting that information from. That being said...I would think BMW Genius would have the same info that your dealer does...so why wouldn't they be able to confirm/deny the September date we were both quoted? I don't know. Also interesting that if these are indeed some of the first allocations (out of 24 or whatever)...why September build dates and not July? |

If first week of Sept (or god forbid, later) is a solid, known build week, then selecting tanzanite and holding firm on Setp 18th, just wont work. In which case, Black it is. -- i think. lol |

I hear ya, must be frustrating trying to schedule an ED with so little information available.
Maybe the September ETAs are just a place-holder date until the pricing is released and the system is fired up. That's my hope, at least LOL. Still don't get why some of the first few trickled out allocations would have September build dates....who is getting the July ones then??? Unless it (probably) has to do with dealership and the higher priority/volume dealerships get earlier builds. |

Honestly, it's more of a concern regarding work schedules and being able to plan the trip. If we don't get that week of September, we may need to push it to October due to conflicting things at work. Then we start to get into cooler temps which isn't ideal. |

So I just got off the phone with ED. They tell me that the build week is set as a guideline with the allocation. However, they have the ability to move the production week, if availability exists to help meet the ED date.
So, the first week of September is NOT set in stone (at least not for ED). Whether or not it can be moved up enough to accommodate a Priority 1 individual and a Sept 18th delivery date, is anyone's guess until the system is opened up and the pricing guides are released. |

The ED department works directly with BMWAG (factory) and the Welt (delivery) in obtaining your desired delivery date.
The problem that we have right now is that there are no prices officially established so no deliveries can be set yet. Remember, BMWAG only produces cars already sold. Our orders are not "sold" yet until there is a price attached to them. What we have is a production slot that can change at any time until it is "sold". Quote:

Furthermore, my 'guess' is that they try to maintain flexibility in order to meet ED dates. So right now my build week is the first week of September, but I could in theory could be swapped with someone in July, if july becomes available, and if it helps me meet my Sept 18th date. -- This is just a guess based on the ED rep saying my build week isn't written in stone and they will try to work backwards to try to get the delivery date I want within whatever date restrictions they have. |

OP, relax. It will work out. I was the same way, so I understand.
BMW will adjust your production date to meet your delivery date regardless of what allocation your dealer used. This post explains how things went for me, but you are in a slightly different situation waiting on the release of the guides. Sakhir by the way is a great color.

Well just got a call from my dealership... and called BMW just to be 100% sure... The system accepted my build with my new Production Number... Tanzanite Blue Individual over Black extended, competition package M3 will be ready for me to picked up on a confirmed date of September 19th!!!!
Build week is scheduled for 35 (last week of August), but supposedly has the possibility of being moved up to meet the date 'if the factory deems necessary'! |

Glad it has firmed up for you. I know I was relieved when mine firmed up. Now the long wait and planning begins.
