Supersprint exhaust for 50i

UPDATE: check post #11 here for a free DIY to get a descent sounding exhaust mod from a stock one

I only found this picture on some x5 50i owners journal blog. Trying to find out more info. If anyone knows anything about it - please comment

Cats are made by HJS - they produce 2 versions for street use and off-road, but both are supposedly catching and eliminating smell (difference is only in back-pressure numbers)

AFAIK and you can see on picture - primary cats are deleted and instead HJS smaller free flowing cats are built in. This solves MAIN issue with 50i (N63TU) - it moves crazy hot primary cats that are slowly destroying everything in engine further down the piping - so far that it's no more an issue. Of course it also adds a nice sound too

I bet from the looks of it - this bad boy sounds mean, but I can't find anything yet

I think I found a short video clip - of course it was taken using a potato, so quality is abysmal, but if that how it sounds through a potato, I can only imagine how it will sound in person

Another one, but this is a bit different Supersprint setup - or maybe it's just tips that are different

I also found this one - which is a stock exhaust modded: 2 mid-resonators are removed and a straight pipe is welded instead AND rear muffler is cut open and a free flow straight pipe is welded inside

I'm eager to try to do same mod: remove 2 mid-resonators and weld straight pipe instead - should be relatively cheap and easy to do and return back in case it will be too loud. However cutting open rear muffler is somewhat a permanent solution I'm afraid. I'm on a fence on this one, but I don't want it to be too loud - it's hard to judge from video and that's the only thing holding me right now. Literally not enough data out there regarding stock exhaust modifications. Unfortunately it's very rare that someone experiments with $70-80k 50i - unlike on e90post where lots of people modded their stock exhaust on their relatively cheap 328s e90

I checked price for rear muffler and it's around $1k for new one
This is what stopping me. I don't want to cut it open and end up buying a new one. Has anyone done such mods or opened up muffler for 50i ever? Just curious to see inside photos and layout of piping

Would likely be cheaper to cut the old one out and just have a shop do up straight pipes.

I had a straight pipe 2012 M5 and it wasn't too loud only got carried away when you redlined it. (Turner exhaust)

Also had a 2012 x6m with the stock muffler modded for straight through and again it wasn't too loud.

No videos of course haha

If I'm keeping my x5 50i im having this done right away!!!

On this car, I wouldn't go too aggressive on the muffler.
I have sold a lot of ACS and all of my customers loved it.
Got couple guys asked me on Hamann, which is the same setup as SuperSprint (I believe Hamann is made by SuperSprint), I told them that they won't like it. But, they insisted. After 1 week, they decided to take them off because it is too loud.

So I got response from owner of this x5 that modded stock exhaust. This is what he did:
1. Cut out mid resonators - there's 2 of them and weld in straight pipe
2. Cut open rear muffler. It's best to cut open it from top (that way it won't be visible that it was opened - cosmetics wise).
3. There will be a bunch of perforated pipes inside. Take a photo of them. Cut them all and throw away. Weld in straight pipes exactly repeating pattern of how perforated pipes were (I guess photo is not really needed it's not that complicated lol, but just in case if you will forget how pipes were initially situated).
4. Throw out steel wool fiber insulation and repack/replace it with new one (I guess old one can be reused if yours is relatively new and in good shape).

That's it!

I estimate this procedure to take around half-day at local muffler shop, but not sure how much they will charge for this. Basically you only need a same size/diameter pipes (that any local muffler shop has in abundance), cutting tool and a welding machine

Well OP wanted to sell custom exhaust for $1500 and had a good lineup. Now this above mentioned mod is free for everyone to try and will probably cost much less than that

Look up turner muffler delete. I would bother cutting apart the stock system just get rid of it! Then when You want to go back to stock take it back to the muffler shop and have them out it back in.

Bonus is you have straight pipes that someone here will buy when you're done
