When can I pickup an E90 M3 for $50k?

Hi all - my self imposed budget for an M3 is $50k (I like for somebody else to take the initial depreciation hit and pay the GG tax). Do you think I'll be able to pick up a low mileage one by fall? If not then I will have to wait until next spring...

I'm not picky on options... only must is black exterior and EDC... thanks!

Good Luck! That is all I have to say. These cars are listed as #2/3 on the best residual value cars. If you can find someone willing to sell for 50K in a few months I will be surprised.

I don't know if you can get that price through the dealer. Definitely you can get it through private sale. Someone like (? I can't remember his name) who sold his car because he didn't like the MT. Just lurk to all those M3 forums and who knows, you might get lucky. I just hope that nobody will sell their M3 because of economic reasons. Maybe they just don't like it because they got a better car to buy like Ferrari, Lambo or similar.

good luck, perhaps a stripped down model with no options that was a floor model/test drive car with a few miles on it.

You might want to look at the salvage yard for a wrecked one at the price. Good luck, happy hunting.

Yup. Obviously I'm not looking for a new one at this price but for something used maybe 15k miles or something.

After watching the E60 M5's "plunge" in value the first year I want to be a little patient with the M3's pricing.

Yup, I read that article in Kiplingers like 4 years ago - SL500 was #1, M3 was #2. I have owned 2 E46 M3's and done extremely well on the TCO. The "sweet" spot (for us resale conscious people) is to buy in year 2 and sell in year 4 to take advantage of the full warranty\maint. which contributes to the high resale.

However much has changed since then. The car is now higher priced (thus fewer buyers), more competition (used M5, ISF, Merc, CTSV, etc), and BMW is trying to sell more cars total than the E46 so there's more on the road.

good choice! a barebones e90 M3 is for me better than a fully equipped twin-turbo. I thought about it, but after I decided to add ZTP.. then the leather creeped in.. and now I got a e92 coupe instead. far from where I started from

A total base M3 sedan is around $53500..... so you can come close with a good discount right now on a base model...but thats no fun!!

In a year you should be able to find someone who bought the initial shipments of loaded sedans ($70+K) that might be in a bad spot to sell in that range.....

nah u wont get that much of a discount on M cars unless they been sitting there for a while, have no options, and BMWFS really wants to get rid of them. which sounds like December/January. maybe this coming one, but probably the one after.

not selling well? sure, but not THAT much of a discount IMHO. i hope u get a good discount though, would be happy to see a new M3 owner

But then you have GG tax as well... i'd rather wait for a slightly used one with options then get a brand new "stripper".... its just that the wait is not fun!!! I signed up for a bunch of track days with my ZHP to occupy my attention. I need to stay off these boards too

If you don't mind a manual transmission, you should be able to take your pick!

I think a lot of you guys are way too optimistic on the M3's resale (at least on the sedan with a 6MT) Just because the E36 and E46 could hold a certain percentage in the past doesn't mean E90/92 will do the same. Resale for ALL high-end cars is taking a beating in "this economy."

There are tons of Jerez Black E90 M3 6MT Sedans sitting on lots across the country. They can't even sell this car NEW, with a discount... Used? Forgetaboutit.

$50K should be the trade-in value of one of those black E90 6MT launch cars, probably around the end of the year, OR even when the '09s come out (about 3 more months) Trade in value is going to be low because it appears there is already an oversupply. I'm sure you can find a private seller willing to sell for just a bit more than trade-in.

Being the first on the block has its price. It's something I'm willing to pay, but I'm not unrealistic about what that means.... been there, done that... lost some dough.... but I had the first Z4 M Coupe! I went to trade it in about 7 months after I bought it and the dealers wouldn't even take it. It was already a "turkey."

The best case right now at the right dealer, base E90 M3 could be as low as $52,000 before GGT. So The EDC will add another grand to it, thus $54,300-$54,500 is the best that you could be...
