I noticed a sound like that in the back i always thought it was the tail gate but then i closed the trunk cover that folds so you cant see whats in the trunk and the noise was gone. Try that and let me know hopefully thats the odd fix. Maybe it needs a pad when folded open so it doesn't make noise.

what if you forego the electrical tape and simple readjust the latch to be inward more making the tailgate have a tighter seal?

I did attempt to get at it, but had trouble getting some of the plastic pieces off. At the very least I know that's the source of the problem. It's quieter now, so I'll just have the dealer take care of it next time it's in.

They adjusted the latch and stopping points. Apparently it was too "tight." They also lubricated all door seals as well. All good again.

Bump
Has anyone gotten this resolved successfully?
I had it in to the dealership and they had a service bulletin that was supposed to address this. They did the work and the creak is back. Its a torquey creak from the rear tailgate when the frame is even slightly twisted, like pulling into a parking spot with a small drain, etc. Driving me nutso
