Should I disconnect battery while doing maintenance?
Dack, you out there??
Need to replace the fuel pump and regulator in the tank, found the DIY's for that, but following Edd China's rules for maintenance, I should disconnect a battery terminal before doing it for safety. (even though none of the DIY's mention it) Will that screw up the programming on the car or lose memory settings? |

Some maintenance I do without disconnecting the battery but when dealing with anything fuel system most definitely. Sparks and fuel vapor equals bad things.

Disconnect... and then connect an ODB "memory saver" to another power source (or your disconnected battery, if that reaches) to retain your settings and memory. I didn't lose anything when replacing my battery a few years ago... and that must have left the car with no power for maybe two minutes... and so there is time to gracefully connect an ODB power source after disconnecting your battery. Can't hurt.

I don't think this car has any, important, volatile memory. So no memory saver is needed.
But yes, disconnect battery. It's also a nice time to put it on a trickle charger to give it a little reset. |

Always disconnect it when doing anything with electronics, it's just safer that way. The only settings that will be cleared are the date and time.
