I just had the rear brakes replaced on my F85. I have 25,000 miles on the car and they were at 10%. I had absolutely no squeaking for the first 25,000 miles, but now I do. I've read lots of posts about members who have complained about brakes that sound like a 1970 yellow school bus and hadn't experienced any squeaking, now the new brakes squeak. It's only been 2 days. Will it get better or should I take them back to the dealer and tell them they need to fix it. What did members here do to get them fixed? They are embarrassing, plus kids come running out of their houses with a panicked expression of missing the bus when I brake at stop signs in the neighborhood.

Yeah the school bus brakes are strong in my car. Wondering if they also changed your rotors, or machined them? Not sure if they do that on the m cars or just straight up replace the whole thing. If they didn't and you have that outer edge lip than that might be what's rubbing and squealing. Could be that they need some time to bed in as well. Either way your waaaay over due to join the yellow 600hp bus club.

Both BMW and Audi claim that high performance brakes do this. They say it is normal. I think it comes down to the pad choice they make. Porsche and MB high performance brakes aren't noisy. Good luck with the dealer - would love to know what they do for you if anything. I haven't had any success in the past. I'm not aware of any alternative pads for the F85...

Mine squeak like crazy. They have from day one. Took it to two different dealers and they both told me it's normal and expected. Washing your car frequently does help as I notice the squeak is significantly less when the wheels are clean.

I beg to differ.

In fact, you can find an amusing official Porsche video with a quick search, instructing us on how Porsche brakes may squeak despite how much effort they make to minimize noise when engineering their cars.

That's amazing. They can build incredible cars, but have to resort to flashy videos to tell us brake squeal is normal. Even though I never had it on any other car I've ever had before in my life. I feel like I've graduated into something special now.

Saw that recently. The MB sales people will tell you the amg don’t squeak. Audi will hand you a glossy brochure when you complain. Porsche now has a video. Although my experience with Porsche brakes may be dated...these are quiet as can be.

I remembered that when I picked up my X5M new I did 10 runs on a back road where I accelerated to 80 and did hard braking. I did it right after each other. I had read something from another string in this community and so did it immediately on picking up. Well I did it last week after my original post and have not had a brake squeal since. I know others have tried it and it didn't work, but two sets of brakes now and after doing it there is no squeal. I think because the brakes are so large, that you need to go faster than 60 so that the brakes get hotter and settle in better.

The funny thing is that most of the S/RS, AMG and high output vehicles have the same brembo calipers and similar pads the only thing that varies are pad compounds on some vehicles. The people who are really sore are the ones who get the CCB packages and then complain that their brakes squeal and are noisier than anything they had in the past.

Yep, this is bedding in the brakes when they are new. Basically transferring new pad material to the rotor so they will grab better.

It will help but if the car is driven gently most of the time, without regular bedding in, the squeal will likely return.

^Correctomundo. Cayenne Turbo squeals and I haven't driven a Lamborghini that doesn't squeal. They all share the same parts out of the VAG parts bin. The only one out of the bunch that does not have this sound are the Bentley products but again I have a feeling their pad compounds are much different... Same with Range Rover.

That's never been a problem, hence brake replacement at 25,000 miles.

^^ What was replaced? Your OP says "they were at 10%". I'm assuming you mean the pads?

Some experts suggest resurfacing the rotors when you do a pad change, but I have always just repeated the bedding in process.

I don't think the rotors were replaced. It says new brake pads, and sensor were replaced. My sales guy said they don't normally need new brake pads until 50k miles, but he knew my history of going through brakes and so I got the brakes added back in to the maintenance plan when I bought it. Glad I did! When are others replacing pads and/or rotors on the F85?

When a I had my 50i the dealership told me they always replace rotors and pads at same time and they did at about 24k and 45k miles. Maybe that is only in the 50i, seems strange. The 50i brakes sucked. Even after they replaced both pads and rotors within 3-4K miles the rotors would get warped again and the brakes would shake. I've never had any vibration in the X5M brakes. It's a completely different car than the 50i, everything works together and matches the engine.

All you need is tell the service Advisor you feel them shake.... get on a good relationship with them, throw a 100 to the Roach coach, if you have the brake service add on they will write it up that way..... greasing goes along way with hard working folk
