Please help me decide - M3 CP or M5 CP
Hi all from South Africa, my first post
So I have to decide between 2016 M3 CP or 2015 M5 CP. The M3 is slightly more expensive. I would like to hear some of your opinions regarding the choice of the 2. Thanks |

If youre going to track it, get the M3, it handles incredibly well. Also, there are a ton of tuning options and fuel/intercooler options. Aftermarket part availability is far greater than the M5.
Having said that, I would buy the M5 |

it depends on the purpose of the car. If you don't plan on tracking the car at all, I would get the M5.
Also, the M3 is a much lighter and smaller car. You'll feel the weight difference even on the street. So you should consider whether you prefer a lighter car or you don't mind the heavier car. Also, will you be carrying passengers in the back? What about the usage of the trunk space? Anyways, if you decided on the M5, then the real question is, would you do the M5 or the M6 GC! lol

I've owned my M5 for almost a year and I feel it's a boat! Don't get me wrong the power is amazing and it sounds great. My previous cars were a GTR-R35 and Stage 2 Audi B8S4. My M5 is basically stock, but I'm already wanting to get into something smaller like an M3. The M3 looks amazing and a little more compact. Just really depends what you're looking for. Bigger engine or smaller car. |

I wanted the M6GC pretty bad, but in the end it had effectively the same performance without sunroof, less usable back seat, and I didn't get in/out as easy (I'm 6'3"). Oddly, getting in and out of my lowered Corvette is not an issue. Initially I preferred the M6GC styling, but as time went on the long overhangs and dated rear wore on me. It was still a tough choice. I think what I like the most is that nobody really thinks an M5 is special except true car people. I'm a dentist and something a tad less showy helps with the politics of staff and patients as well. You park a Ferrari outside and people think you're going to rip them off. |

^where are the customers' yachts?
The title of this 1955 book refers to a story about a visitor to New York who admired the yachts of the bankers and brokers. Naively, he asked where all the customers' yachts were. Of course, none of the customers could afford yachts, even though they dutifully followed the advice of their bankers and brokers. Full of wise contrarian advice and offering a true look at the world of investing, Where are the Customers' Yachts? continues to open the eyes of investors to the reality of Wall Street today. Leo Gough's interpretation of Where are the Customers' Yachts? illustrates the timeless nature of Fred Schwed's insights. Bringing them to life through 52 modern case studies, this brilliant interpretation is an entertaining accompaniment to one of the most eye-opening books on investment ever written. |

The depreciation won't be that different. The M3 and M4 are available in much greater numbers and the prices tend to reflect that on approved used. The M5 had a higher price tag and depreciate heavily initially but second hand, I'd say would be no worse than any premium saloon.

In the UK, an M5 is a superb nearly new buy. A year old Competition car with good spec and less than 10k miles can be got for less than nearly new M3 / M4 money. I'd have the M5 everytime.
