X6 roadtrip - Chicago to Montreal (and back)
Drove the X6 from Chicago to Montreal and back last weekend to see the F1 Grand Prix. Total of just under 900 miles each way - took 15 hours outbound Friday (Traffic in Toronto was a nightmare ) and 13 back including pit stops. Averaged 18 MPG over the total trip, which was not too bad IMO given the engine is still pretty tight. Felt as fresh on arrival as on departure - this car is sooooo comfortable!!

Nice.
I did a road trip from San Diego to Malibu a few weeks ago and averaged 21.5MPG with only 600 miles on the odometer. I expect it to get a little better as the engine breaks in. Your trip must of had a lot of hills or you were going rather fast. 18MPG seems low.

21.5 is really good - although as you say, depends on speed driven..... coming back we covered the 900 miles in a little under 13 hours net - which meant an average of 70MPH all the way. We were going pretty quick whenever we could - averaging around 90 across most of Michigan and holding just above 80 along the trans-Canadian (where the speeding fines are pretty high once you go over 120KPH). Lots of attention from other drivers as well - especially in Canada where we had a number of truckers and other Bimmer drivers tooting horns at us as we passed them...!

Thankfully avoided the QEW - probably would have added another couple of hours onto the trip! We took the Blue Water Bridge crossing (remarkably quick into Canada for a Friday lunchtime) and then the 402 / 401 all the way. Hit the Friday Toronto traffic a few clicks west of the airport and crawled on for the next 3 hours. Once we got well clear of Toronto things sped up again - although eldest son had a fright behind the wheel about half way between Toronto and Montreal - cop with a radar gun trying to get a hold of him while doing 90+ - luckily for him there was a semi in the inside lane to hide behind whilst anchoring up hard...... Cop waved a finger as we passed him! Great trip for a boys weekend - lifetime memories!
