What Options am I lacking?
So new potential X5 buyer here and found one that has a lot of the options I am looking for. I have a budget and am looking for used, so I can't be too picky, but hate to know I missed something I wanted AFTER I buy something. Have to go a ways to look at this one, so trying to do my research first.
I know I am missing the HK system, LED lights, and DHP (which seems to be rare anyway) but none of these are deal breakers for me. Seems remote start is not an option at all on these - same with Tow package - but both can be added later. Not crazy about these wheels - but again those can be swapped. Anything else I should consider?? I just don't know what I don't know if you know what I mean! lol. Thanks for any suggestions! Drivers Assistance Plus Package, if those additional features beyond basic Driver Assistance are important to you. Maybe I missed?
Nor did I see Heated Steering Wheel (nice to have on cold mornings). Reagarding HK, you’re right, not easy to find an X5 with on the dealer lot; however, it is well worth the effort to do so. I know it sounds crazy, but no HK was an absolute deal-breaker for me when I was searching for mine earlier this year. |

I actually don't care about the heated steering wheel except for possible help selling in the future. My GF car has it and I don't care for it. Of course I don't often use heated seats either, so I'm weird. I DO like the cooled seats and this one has them which seems to be pretty hard to find. This is actually the first one I have found with them so far in my colors and price range.
It does have the comfort seats - which is not a must have for me, but a big plus and I am glad it has them. Never heard of soft close, but think I can live without and I think I can live without night vision! I can always strap mine on if I need it. lol I can live without Msport, rear heated seats (in it alone 90% of the time and only 2 people 99.9% of the time) and I actually do NOT want a 3rd row as that rear storage compartment is what I like and want. Not sure what I am missing from the Drivers Assistance Plus Package - I will have to check that out??? This is what I need - thank you and keep them coming! Matt

Any of the features you can live without... until you expereince them yourself and later its a must have options. Typically that is what happens because you can't miss what you have never had?
With that said, don't get your hopes up too high on the ventilated seats.. because its just ventilated... it isn't cooled. Good luck.

Yeah - that is what I read about the ventilated seats which is why it is not a must have, but I used mine like that most times on long trips as the cool AC makes you feel like your ass is wet - when it is not - after a few hours. The vent is prefect to me. Again - not a must have, but I do like that it is there and the comfort seats are a big plus too. Nice seats are a big deal to me.
I am an options guy, but only the ones that matter to me. I'm not the guy that wants to impress anyone with what my car can do - it has to be something I will actually use before it goes on the must have. I would like the DHP, but I have not even run into one yet so I kind of expect that will be a unicorn find for me. My current DD has about every option I want and never really wish for more, I just want a car with a better driving experience which I feel the X5 will fit. I don't want to go backwards with options though and miss something I have now. I do like my current stereo set up, but it is nothing fancy and suits me well - I hope the X5 will do the same even if I need to upgrade the amp or something which seems to be a easy thing to do with the hifi system. I'll just have to test it out and see before I buy! I can handle not getting an option better if I know what I am passing up before hand - buyers remorse is the worst! BMW options are kind of hard to interrupt to say the least! Appreciate the help!

MSport isn’t a missing “option” ——— I found my X5 on a dealer lot. Had almost all the options I wanted. Just involved a lot of searching. My requirements were: V8, multi contour seats, hud, led headlight, surround camera, rear air suspension for occasional towing I would have liked the radar cruise control but was really hard to find. I’ve never really cared for dhp since I don’t know what that feels like. I actually did not want headlight washers at the time, but now I think I should have gotten them. I was also willing to go for older model year for heavier discount.

I never thought I would like the HUD, but now when I drive a vehicle without it I definitely miss it. M Sport Pkg with M Adaptive Suspension and 20” wheels were a must. LED headlights and Mulit-Contour seats were worth every penny.

It does have HUD - but I don't think it has Active cruise. I have never had that and think I would like it!

This one does have the leather dash - (Upholstery EXCL.LED.NAP.ERW./ELFENBEINW./ELFEN (NAEX) which I would not have known to look for, but now that I have seen it I like it. Same with the surround camera - this one has one but i didn't know to look for it till I found this one - now I kinda want it. I'll have to find a spare and I can live without the ceramic knobs!! lol

I wondered about that - I have never seen them. I figured they felt great to spin with the weight, but wondered how bad they would fingerprint up!

I DO want the LEDs, but I have yet to see one with them. This does have the MC Seats - which I agree I would like to have.

LOL - even worse! I figured they had a nice "thick" weighted feel to them. If I remember right they were a pretty expensive option new too! Why I figured they were real.....

Not crucial, but I prefer the Msport steering wheel to the standard one. I had a loaner without Msport pack and couldn't stand the steering wheel.
Beyond that, the multi contour seats are infinitely better than the standard sport seats. Leather on the dash is nice, but some say that since that area gets the most sun, leatherette is a better choice. Surround view camera is an absolute game changer. I have the ceramic controls, I just give them a wipe with a microfiber cloth now and then to keep them looking fresh. The benefit of not having a spare tire is that you can use that space for storage, but might mean you'd want run flat tires which some people loath. |

My car is parked indoors most of the time - so sun damage is usually very little on my cars. I am not sure the surround view is a must - but now that I have seen it I want it! Looks like it would be very hand indeed. Run Flats I do not care for. My Z4 had them when I bought it and even though they were less than 5K on them and nice brand tires - with that little car it felt like you were driving in a hurricane. I upgraded them to non-RFT and the difference was night and day. Might not be as bad on the X5 due to the larger size and larger sidewalls, but they were terrible on that car for sure. Follow any crack in the road. I do want to keep that compartment empty if I can though....I have plans for it! lol

I usually drive faster than most, so I am usually passing not following, but I could see on 2 lane roads where passing might not be possible it would be nice to not have to constantly take your cruise off or drive manually. I probably would not use it much either, but I'd like to try it.

Ventilated seats are hit and miss - or to be more precise it depends on owner. Some find it uncomfortable for long drives. The reason is that there is less padding for ventilated seats to work and for some owners it feels a bit uncomfy. On the other hand just regular comfort seats (multi-contour) are heavenly good.
P.S. Does it have adaptive suspension? Self leveled rear suspension is very good for towing. P.P.S. Not going to rub it in lol, but M-Sport package is really growing on me. It has front and rear a lot nicer bumpers, different side skirts, different exhaust tips, m-sport steering wheel (which looks a lot nicer than stock one) and some other goodies like additional sport+ mode that tightens steering and suspension, adds launch control mode etc. IMHO you'll pay a lot more to add elements of it later. Even just a steering wheel replacement is going to be about $1k (as airbag is different too on m-sport steering wheel). Last edited by DuSh; 11-02-2018 at 01:41 PM.. |

I DO like the looks of the Msport for sure - but I'd have to trade a lot of miles or years to get it in my budget - so not worth it to me for the looks. I do love the front and back treatments it provides though. I have other cars when I want to worry about looks! I do like the wheel though - but I have already found a few in classifieds here and there if I decide I need it. This X5 might see dinner on the town or the rear full of decoys on the way to hunt - so even though my cars always look better when I sell them than when I buy them - I use them!
