A possible reason why...is the multiple control modules consuming power to the point that BMW has reprogrammed some models lowering their consumer cut-off time...to cut back power consumption after the engine has been shut down. If you have a battery maintainer/tender that you use on a regular base...moving up to a 105 AH battery may not be as necessary versus owners that don't and don't drive often...or only drive short distances. As far as battery "recommendations"...my suggestion is to look at the specs of the battery. Most batteries are made by a few battery manufactures for most battery brands in a market...so the specs are pretty close between the various brand names...and only the battery case and logos are different...along with the price depending on how much they advertise or can fleece from consumers based on brand name (you hear that BMW?). For example, in the US market...most batteries (except for a few "boutique" brands) are manufactured by Exide, Johnson Controls, and East Penn. So when you go to AutoZone, O'Reillys, Pep Boys, Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, Advanced Auto, Batteries Plus, etc...you will see batteries with similar battery cases and specs...and the only differences are the color of the case. If you take note of the CCA (cold cranking amps), CA (cranking amps), RC (reserve capacity), and AH (amp hour)...you'll see that most of them are very close in spec to each other. In the East Penn chart below...you can see what the specs are of the various size batteries. BMW big sedans and SAVs usually require an 49/H8 or 95R/H9 class size battery. That is what I would recommend to look for when shopping for a replacement battery (the battery class size). Some smaller BMW models like the 1, 2, and 3 series with 4 cyl engines and fewer electronic nannies...can probably use a 94R/H7 or 48/H6 class size battery. BTW...BMW recommends AGM batteries for the new gen BMWs since the e90/e60/e65/e70- up.
