Advice please - New to BMW looking to buy 2013 M5
So I have never owned a BMW and found what I think is a good deal on a 2013 M5. It has 48k miles and the asking price is 30k (is this a good price?). Other than a PPI and Carfax report what else should I check? Should I consider a warranty, if so any recommendations on which one? Looking to buy this as a daily driver. Thanks in advance.

Also found a 2015 CPO w/ comp package with similar miles for 46k. Seems like the 13 is a good deal but worried about a car without warranty. Thoughts?

Go for the '13 you'll have no trouble as long as it's had at least five oil changes in its life and plenty of cash left for small cosmetic changes you may want. Also check on tyres (Michelin are recommended) brake discs and pads which are a heavy expense at change time.

The value of a warranty has been debated exhaustively on this forum, so do a little searching and you'll be well informed. For me, I wouldn't leave home without one. I've already had almost $8k in repairs in nine months of ownership.

8k in 9 months, damn. What year is the car and what was the mileage? Do you have Fidelity? Any regrets with the purchase?

Re: car in the original post. Based solely on the info given, sounds like a fair price. More details would be helpful though including condition or photos.
As for specific things, it mostly boils down to any other car purchase. Also not to be "that guy" but do a search here. There are tons of people asking the same questions. Take the time to sit in it and play with every feature and button you can. Make sure it all works. Make sure heat is hot and AC is cold, same with the seats. Do a good visual inspection around the car. Tires are expensive especially on this car as you don't want to cheap out on tires. Do a visual of the brakes. If there is a defined lip on the rotors, they are due or nearly due for new ones @ $400-600+ each. On the test drive, listen for noises. The F10 is generally very reliable platform with few suspension issues but the diff mount can go bad. Guys with DCT can chime in on potential problems to look for with the transmission. Re: Warranty. Lots of people claim they can't live without it. It's the same story with every generation of car. Eventually warranty companies aren't going to insure them and yet people still somehow own and drive the cars! Amazing. haha. Anyway, you just have to do your own risk assessment. A big factor will be whether or not you do your own work. From what I've learned so far in my ownership (mostly reading this forum) is that the car is either reliable or has a catastrophic failure without warning. So far in 10 months and 14,000 miles of my ownership, I had the B&O amp die (the bass stopped working) and recently developed a clunk noise that I'm still diagnosing. Otherwise has been perfect. |

So I got quotes from 2 warranty companies.
Red Shield warranty -4500 5/48k Map warranty - 6500 4/48k. Has anyone used Red shield? I have been searching but have not seen anyone reference this company. Last edited by Jeb80; 08-06-2019 at 07:37 PM.. |

2013 with 68k when I bought it with solid service records and a PPI. No regrets. A/C compressor and upper oil pan gasket ate most of that, plus a bank of injectors. Service contract with EFG through BMW dealership. Love the car, but warranty gives me extreme peace of mind.

I got mine through the dealership I bought the car from, which is also where it had been turned in to while still CPO. Not sure if they'd quote you outside of a dealer or if so, what at, but may be worth trying. honestly I think they screwed up quoting me that low regardless. no idea if they'd make the same mistake twice. |

I have EFG/MAP. After doing some researching and stumbling across hundreds of horrible reviews, I am strongly considering cancelling the whole thing.
Any members had experience with them? |

I paid $5595 for a 4yr/50k contract with a $200 deductible per visit, not per repair. If I have two warranty repairs made on the same service visit, I only pay one deductible.
