New to me - 2017 F15 X5 M Sport

Hello F15 owners!

Longtime forum member here, owned a number of BMWs over the years, including an E70 50i until just recently. I loved that vehicle for 5+ years but it was 2 generations old and wanted to get into something newer with low miles. Test drove the G05 and F85 - the G05 was nice but I still can't get past the front and rear end styling. The F85 was great but they're commanding $75K-$80K for 2017/2018 low mileage examples and dealers would not budge much on price.

I found the below 50i in less than 2 months - not bad as it took me 10 months to find my E70. It checked all my required boxes (wouldn't have bought it otherwise) so I quickly reached a deal with the selling dealer and had it enclosed shipped from North Carolina to Seattle.

Specs:
2017 xDrive50i - Space Gray/Black Dakota/Fineline Oak Trim - 8K miles, CPO until June 2022
M Sport Package w/ black 469's
Executive Package
Cold Weather Package
DA+ w/ ACC Stop & Go
Lighting Package
Front Ventilated Seats
Parking Assistant
Apple CarPlay

Short mod list so far:
M Performance gloss black grills (not pictured)
iND Space Gray front reflectors (not pictured)
Front window tint to match rears (not pictured)
PPF - front bumper, mirrors, side skirts, & rear wheel arches (had a lot of paint chipping issues with the side skirts and rear wheels arches on my E70)
Custom coding
Up next - 599M's - anybody have a set for sale?

Not much reason to compare the F15 vs. E70 at this point - many of you had E70's and understand the differences. I'm really liking this F15 - much more refined, way better tech, way more modern looking inside, etc. There's still some areas it's lacking vs. E70 IMO - steering obviously, and it just doesn't have the planted tank like feel to it. But overall I like it much better. This F15 50i is also noticeably quicker than my E70 50i, which had the Dinan S2 software.

Below are some pics of both X5's. Looking forward to spending more time on the F15 board.

Congrats! Just picked one up myself in the same color and configuration but with the 35d and had it delivered enclosed from Florida. BTW, that E70 looks sweet.

Good to see she's home! Nice work being patient and getting exactly what you wanted. Still have a soft spot for that color/wheels combo. I might almost prefer them over 599s...

Space Gray or Alpine White were the only 2 colors I was considering. Really happy with the Space Gray - nice change being my E70 was Alpine White.

Funny you mention that Piet. I've never liked black wheels on basically any vehicle - I bought this X5 as it checked all my other boxes, but black 469's definitely weren't on that list. I figured they're easy enough to swap out though. When it arrived, I actually loved the wheels, especially on Space Gray. Perfect contrast, and they match the gloss black roof rails, gloss black window trim, gloss black front grills, window tint, etc. I'm actually quite happy they're not silver.

With that said, I can't picture running these long term, I still prefer the 599Ms, both for size and style. 20's seem too small for the F15 IMO. I don't really want to sell these black 469's though, so I might put winter tires on them and get 599Ms for the rest of the year, even though Seattle doesn't really warrant separate winter/summer setups.

So when are your 599M's up for sale

There is a set of 599 on the classified section. Looks like they are in Seattle.

One last pic which includes some minor changes I did not pictured in the original post... front window tint, painted front reflectors, and gloss black front grills.

Very nice! Do you DIY or did you pay for the maintenance program?

My original 3 year maintenance program doesn't expire until next June, so I've got time to figure that out. I already spoke to my SA, there's 2 different maintenance programs available, one more expensive w/ broader coverage than the other.

We don't drive that much, so might just skip those and pay as I go. If I did get one, I'd get the more expensive one I think. The entry level one doesn't cover squat as I recall.

Ah, I didn't think new car maintenance plans were extended to subsequent owners. Or is it private party sales don't get it, but dealer sales do?

Good question, I honestly don't know.

The BMW dealer I purchased from never mentioned or offered to transfer the maintenance, and I didn't ask either. When I got it here to Seattle my SA transferred it (cost me $100).

According to BMWUSA, maintenance coverage does not transfer. So sounds like he did you a solid, though I'd still rec changing the oil more frequently:

https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/bmw-v...onditions.html

NON-TRANSFERABILITY
These maintenance programs are available to the exclusive benefit of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle, Aftersales Mobility Program vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle from an authorized BMW center in the United States (including Puerto Rico). Coverage is not transferable to subsequent purchasers, owners, or lessees. The sole exception to the non-transferability of coverage is that household transfers—transfers within the United States (including Puerto Rico) to members of the household of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a BMW vehicle from an authorized BMW center—will not terminate coverage. Household transfers are limited solely to transfers to a current or former spouse or spousal equivalent, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, or grandchild from the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a vehicle. In the event of a household transfer, purchasers, owners, or lessees of a BMW vehicle should promptly advise their authorized BMW center to document and confirm the household transfer for purposes of coverage. The payoff of a loan on a vehicle by the initial purchaser and the purchase of a leased vehicle by the initial lessee are not considered transfers for purposes of coverage.
