Coronavirus = fuel stabilizer?
I am planning to add to diesel fuel stabilizer to my X5 35d, as I am not driving it while I stay at home waiting out the virus. Could be a while before I need to refill the fuel tank. Anyone else doing this?

I still drive around almost daily.. otherwise I'll get cabin fever. As long a as I'm in my X5 bubble there are no virus worries.

Unless you are not driving it for months (like winter storage), otherwise just filling up the tank would be sufficient.

Same. Try to get 2-3 good drives in a week. Not short 5minute trips, but drives long enough for the engine up to reach (and stay at) operating temperature for a period of time. Highway miles help.

^This, and I have stored cars for winter without fuel stabilizer and never had an issue
Your battery is more of a concern

Staying in doors results in less infections resulting in less pressure on our health system. Only essential travel or key workers should be on the streets Over here strict fines are being imposed for non essential travel. Stay home, protect lives and be safe Sorry to be preaching!

I see no harm in taking your car for a spin if your alone, your not effecting anyone. Everyone stay safe.

The quote I was referring to in thread 2 does not refer to helping others in need which I totally agree must be done. But just saying "I still drive around almost daily.. otherwise I'll get cabin fever" does not to me sound as though you are taking it seriously. There are doctors and nurses around the world putting their life at risk saving the needed. All we have to do is ride out this pandemic by staying home to protect other people and only make essential trips out of you home.

I am not able to drive the car a few times a week right now, as I am working from home until the virus goes away, which could be months. I just don't have the time to burn through a tank of fuel anytime soon. The 35d motor will go a long, long way between fill ups and we use my wife's car for most our weekend errands. If I had to guess I would say it will take 3 months or more before I need to refill the tank.
I do have a battery maintainer, and I'm diligent about using it on my Porsche (which also sits around a lot), so I expect I will be the same with the X5 while it is sitting around. |

Definitely nothing wrong with going for a stress relieving spin. Taking the family for a highway circuit wont hurt either. Driving with the windows cracked, sunroof open, for an hour a so on the expressway and back home is totally harmless. Be smart, be careful , not stupid.
