Potential New Owner Question About Leather Wear

Hi All,

Soon to be new to me X5M owner. Just put a deposit on a certified Donington Gray/Aragon Brown 2017 with 34k miles. I have a couple of items I want addressed on it, but also trying to adjust my mindset that a 3 year old car is going to have a few minor blemishes here and there. My last two cars have been brand new (2014 Cayenne GTS and 2019 RS5 Sportback) and I'm extremely anal about condition of my cars. Have one question in particular about this one. The leather on the driver door where your arm/elbow sits has definitely lost some of it's color. See picture. Is this a normal occurance and is there a way to repair it? Other than that, the interior is immaculate. I just know it will bug me.

Will share more on the car if I pull the trigger Monday. Thanks for any thoughts.

Hard to tell from the photo but I would start by cleaning & conditioning it with proper products first before looking for a repair. I had some marks on my leather that were drastically reduced after I used colourlock cleaner and protector. Sometimes its just a build up of body oils.

That makes sense. I don’t think it will deter me from buying the car, but wanted to see what others thought. Appreciate your thoughts.

It looks like it might be oils and dirt. Steam cleaning might lift it out.

Not normal in my opinion. I have the same color combo as you, mine looks great. You could try to clean it...

But if you are buying it, ask the dealer or whomever you are buying it from to do it so you don't have to.

Thanks all. I’ll see what they can do with it. There are a couple of other items they are addressing before I make a final decision.

So have you had the opportunity to address your issue? And if so, what was the outcome?

Not yet. There were a couple of things I wanted the dealer to address and they haven't finished yet. Hopinf today to go take a look and make a final decision on the car. I don't think this leather issue is a deal breaker for me. I've been chatting with someone at colourlock.com and they seem to think it's fixable. Not sure I want the dealer to try it because they will make it worse. Stay tuned.

Careful now. I don’t know about your dealer but if they’re in the same league as mine, I wouldn’t trust them to perform any delicate work like that one- my local BMW dealership would end up cracking the windshield if asked to do any rudimentary task such as replacing the wiper blades..

Ended up passing on this one. Scared off by paintwork on fron bumper and more so by a ticking noise from HVAC that was going to require them pulling the dash.

I did however just buy a carbon copy '17 from TN!! Will start a new thread when it arrives!
