Cat deletes
I am going to install test pipes on my 2008 M3. In reading through the forums it seems there are two issues, the waring light and the air compressor. I can remedy the waring light with an Akraporic deleter but would need a Stage 2 tune to fix the air compressor issue. This is my understanding and I am wanting to confirm this with those of you knowledgeable. I have a few questions also:
1. If I get the Stage 2 tune, will I be able to eliminate the need for the Akraporic deleter and have this included as part of the tune? 2. Are there any other issues besides the warning light and air compressor that makes a Stage 2 tune necessary or advisable? 3. If the answer to question 2 is "nothing else" then can I have those two issues coded out by a professional? 4. Looking at Alpine tune for $620. Interested in feedback from anyone that has this installed. Aside from cat deletes, aftermarket axle back exhaust and cold air intake, I do not plan on any other modifications. My car has the DCT. Any suggestions on configurations I should include in tune? Thanks. |

I started with a BPM stage I tune, it doesn't address CEL because the CATS are still there. 3 months later I put in AA test pipes but included 90 degree elbow oxygen sensor spacers on the downstream sensors (there is one above and below each primary cat). No CEL in 1+ week.
Updating post in June 2021 - after about 9 months, my car finally threw CEL codes for the missing CATS with spacers. I cleared them with my ODBII device and thankfully have a SC coming next week that will include software to delete the CEL long term. Last edited by CamasM3e93; 06-22-2021 at 07:48 AM.. |

I can tell by how you formulated your questions, you read very little, if any on this subject.
The "air compressor" otherwise known as the secondary air pump is used for multiple items and yes can (and usually is) be removed with a tune. A tune is the only way to make more power if installing test pipes. A deleter would not be needed if going this route. A tune plus test pipes will usually run you anywhere from $800-1300 give or take. -Duke |
