Looking at a x5 (need help)
Hey everyone. I’m looking at getting my fiancé into a x5. We’ve been looking for a 3 row SUV lately and came across this x5 xdrive 35d. It’s got 55k miles and has had a accident (minor damage no air bags deployed). They’re looking for 34k. Is that a good deal? How reliable are the diesel motors? Is there anything I should look for with the high miles? Any big maintenance items coming up I should know about?

To me anything over 50k miles is high mileage based on how long I usually drive my cars until moving onto the next. |

Diesel is reliable (I am at 70K miles, 0 issues, except recall items for EGR cooler). Hard to tell if the price is fair, post last 7 digits of VIN or link to the car, it is easier to tell based on the options.Assuming got 3rd row with DHP, no M-sport,no LED lights.

I saw that car listed since I too am in the market, but I opted to pass.
To me, any BMW that has been in a collision of any sort (that's reportable anyway) is not going to ride and feel like one that hasn't. End of story. As for the diesel, I can only speak to the N47 in my X3d. It's got 68k trouble-free miles and returns 34+ MPGs average, even with my lead foot. Still on the hunt for an X5d...

We got rear ended at a traffic light couple of years ago when in wife's x5, the dude was rubbing his eyes, likely didn't notice he stepped off the brakes and hit us like at less than 1mph. Tailgate and bumper got dented which ended up being over 5k in repairs. Luckily no accident was reported because police was not involved. Car still drives 100% same as before. |

Anyway, OP, if you're interested, go take a look. $34k is probably in the middle, maybe highish, side of fair market value depending on options. We picked ours 35d up Jan 1st w/ 85000 miles on it for $24k. It is a loaded example. Dealership was terrible, but had been looking for a year for something optioned as heavily as this one so we bought it. Anyway, diesels can get expensive with the emissions gear. On our E70 I've rebuilt the active DEF tank, replaced glow plugs and controller, and both NOX sensors. Has been no more expensive than maintaining our other BMW's but I do my own work. That will factor in too if you are unable to get some sort of warranty through a third party. Good luck with your search/decision. |
