Brembo 4 Piston Rear Calipers
I've received numerous messages regarding my Brembo 4 Piston Rear Calipers. Where did I get them, how much did they cost, wear did I find Carbon Ceramic pads for these calipers, and on and on.
Well, you can buy them from either of these two places below: https://tro-nik.com/product/upgrade-...5-f16-f85-f86/ Keep in mind that eBay now charges for taxes on your products. https://www.ebay.com/itm/29415008679...UAAOSw3WxaHqW- As for brake pads, you need to search for pads to fit a 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo, I went with Power Stop Z23 Carbon Ceramic Pads from RockAuto but Amazon does sell them. But your choice of brake pads material is your choice. Mounting was so easy, a cave man could do it. The only issue, you'll run into is the new brake lines, as the fittings on the new lines will go fit into the brake line bracket. You have to grind down the teeth on the bracket, to allow the new brake line to fit. As shown in the photo with a air grinder. But you could just reuse your old brake lines instead. The ///M is a sticker, and is not under the clear coat. This kit is truly nice, it just offer a better clamping force then the single piston. I didn't mess with the proportioning valve, as I wanted to the braking force as is. I hope that answer any and all question, but probably not. Plan to spend roughly $1500-1600 for the calipers, and about $250 for installation.

Yes, this should have been stock right from the beginning. I assume that the M5 rotors are a little bit larger, then the X5M requiring a new mounting bracket?

Yup. Tronik makes them as well. A lot more aftermarket rotor options available too.

In my opinion, 5mm isn't worth the added expense of new rotors, brackets and maybe pads. Just saying...... But we do what we love right

Pads are the same. Bracket is 250 or so. Not a big expense as I can change it all out myself.

But you forgot to mention the cost of the new rotors

That's another $350+ for each rotor.

There's machining done on the caliper, so buying the brackets and sourcing stock rear calipers off of a panamera will not work. You can see the cast standoffs in this auction:
https://www.ebay.com/p/1633549075 Those are removed so that when matched with the brackets, it will sit radially close enough. |

Your absolutely right, as I just noticed that. Well maybe someone on a budget could take them to a machine shop. But you’ll still need the brackets, for the perfect install.
Without the brackets, proper clearance can’t be achieved. Tronik did the engineering work, to ensure that these calipers can work on your BMW. And without the correct bracket it won’t work. |

This a nice option, but $1700? I don't know.
Let's do some collective math. Panamera calipers. $_______ Forged bracket $_________ Caliper milled $ _________ Powder coating $_________ Sticker $__________ Bolts $_________ Brake lines $ ________ (I prefer black stainless) |

Just buy the kit, for a no worry install. And I think that they look awesome on my X5M.

Only way to do it right is - buy the kit and match it all for a template - voila.

This car should have come with this. I just dont understand why bmw putting that ugly 1 pot rear brake calipers on M cars. Even M8 comes with that. You did a great swap and i am also planning to do so. Thank you for sharing. BTW these calipers comes from Panamera/991.2.

When I talked to Tronik, they told me that these calipers are from a Panamera, but could also be from a 911, as these calipers have been used across multiple Porsche platforms. They are cleaned, refreshed with new o-rings seals, machined and painted. And that is why I bought them, besides the price wasn’t bad either. Last edited by Yuille36; 06-21-2021 at 11:38 AM.. |
