Oil level not reading
14 x35i. Just changed oil and I drive is giving the message. "Oil level measurement inactive"
See pic View post on imgur.com I'm guessing a sensor has gone bad since no amount of warm up or driving makes it work again. I also cleared my codes. Ideas welcome |

The sensor is #6, check the area on your oil pan to make sure the cable connection is ok. If not, the part # is 12618608780. Get some oil and filter if you decide to change it because you'll have to drain the oil (or you don't have to 😅. FCP Euro and eBay has some. Hope you get it fixed

Here are the codes
View post on imgur.com It appears my oil temp sensor is not reading. Is that the same as oil level sensor? |

I took a look and all the electrical looked good from underneath. I hope a new sensor fixes the issue because they are not cheap.
Still open to other troubleshooting ideas. |

Just to verify...reading through this thread I see no mention that you met all the criteria for running the oil level check. Have you met the criteria? The oil has to be at operating temperatures. If you changed the oil...the new oil is cold/cool...and not up to operating temps...so you would need to run the engine until it reaches the temperature criteria for the level to be read.

If using the instrument cluster button...if you haven't reached a specific criteria...you can't reset the service light. For example, right after resetting the oil service inspection light...you can't reset it until a specific amount of fuel (or is it miles) have been used (see pic below of my 6 series instrument cluster where it says reset is impossible). I had just changed the oil and reset the cluster in April/2021...so the next inspection isn't due until April/2022. At the time of the pic...I had driven enough miles to do an oil service reset...thus the cluster says "reset impossible". My X5, though...the oil service wasn't due until June/2021...and at the time of the pic it was May/2021...thus it was possible to reset the X5's oil service.

Have you tried reading the codes? If the car knows to report "rest unavailable" it should be getting a signal or lack thereof and throw a code. That might help further where to look next.

Solution
I thought I would update the thread with the solution my mechanic discovered. Turns out the n55 has a second oil temp sensor in the block under the intake manifold. Rodents had chewed the wires which caused the oil readings to malfunction. Some soldering and labor and I'm back in business! Wish I didn't spend the money on replacing the oil sensor in the pan. But live and learn.
