It won't buff out...

So I parked my car under a tree and some berries fell on the hood and liquid from the berries left lines on my hood. Had it professionally detailed and clay bar and it didn't come out. Guy said I would need hood sprayed. Any ideas for how I could get it out? Is clay bar the only option to try?

Did you try a polish? It's best to use a professional polishing machine, but if you don't have one then a drill would work too.

Basically this with a polish compound:

I didn't try that yet. If I polish and it gets the stains out could I just ceramic coat the hood after that?

Absolutely, but it would be best to professionally polish the entire hood before applying ceramic coating.

Here is a handy chart for polish compounds aggressiveness comparison:

You said you had it professionally detailed… What exactly does that mean? Did the guy apply a compound and polish to it? If not that's why It didn't come out.

The word 'detail' can mean so many different things to different people.

If the person/shop that 'professionally' detailed your X5 already tried a compound/polish and it didn't come out, then yes it would likely need to be resprayed if you don't want to see those spots. I would assume they tried that if they're a professional detailer.

I have some water spots on my M3 from the original owner that I could never out via paint correction (compound/polish) and would need to respray if I wanted them gone.

They clay barred the entire car and then waxed it.

They basically did nothing for the spots.
I am pretty certain these will disappear with some polishing compound.
I would recommend: Meguiar'sŪ Ultimate Compound, G17216, 15.2 oz., Liquid

Yah agreed. Time to find a new detail shop! That's terrible to recommend that someone respray their entire hood w/o even trying a compound to remove those spots.

Googie - lots of good stuff on the market you could try yourself, even if you don't have an orbital. I'd recommend a fine polish after the compound, all of which will remove the wax this guy applied, but that's easy to reapply.

Thanks for all the great responses. I am going to try the polish myself and see how it goes. I can always just wax the hood afterwards. I will probably get the orbital bit for the drill. in fairness to the detailer he offered to polish with the machine but was charging $250. I'm assuming that was for the whole car and I never asked him how much for just the hood. I asked him if the polish would get the stains out but he wouldn't commit to that so I didn't pursue it any further.

Honestly, if it's just a few small spots, I'd just apply some compound to a micro-fiber towel and see what results you get. Ideally you use a fine polish/finisher afterward. Think of it like sanding a piece of wood - if you start with a coarse/heavy grit sandpaper, ideally you follow that up with a finer grit.

I've had great success with Menzerna products, you can find them on Amazon.

Berries can be just as bad as bird poop as its very acidic if left too long under the sun its possible it could have etched onto your paint hopefully that's not the case here. If you aren't experienced with detailing I suggest you try something user friendly like Meguiars ultimate compound with a micro fiber towel.

You could always take it by a body shop and inquire about wet sanding too and see if that's an option

I would invest in a Dual Action polisher and some pads. This can be removed with some Meg's 105 or 205 and a medium cut (orange) pad. The money you paid this "detailer" could have been used for the above combo. Detailed image.com is running a Labor Day 20% sale, I recommend them for everything you need. Don't forget to put some wax back on after you are done polishing.
