removing rear m3 e92 top shock nut

im doing ohlin coilovers in the rear. i tool all the bottom bolts out holding the shock but the top nut im using a 22mm socket and it keeps spinning. the nut turns but wont come off.

i tried a 22 mm wrench and it doesn't fit as the frame interferes.

i try searching forums and cant find nothing.

do i have to hold the shock from the bottom with vice grips?

any help much appreciated
