35d Fuel Efficiency

Thought the fuel efficiency nerds would appreciate this. For the last ~2.5 years and 17k miles i've been tracking my mpg using the BMW odo for mileage and always filling the tank til it clicks and tracking gallons to full and noting date of fill up. My driving cycle is pretty unique in that i spend 8 months in Chicago, 4 months in a more rural driving cycle and also sprinkle in 300 mile road trips. I was curious to see how the efficiency of the diesel would play out in each, i'm using miles driven per day as a proxy for the different cycles. As you'd expect it's the efficiency looks like a log function as there's a theoretical max mpg you can get and you can really see it tail off in the more urban cycle.

Good info, thanks for sharing, as I'm looking at possibly trading our X3d for an X5d.

Identical numbers (23.62 mpg) on my M50d - over 21.5k miles measured.

I'm amazed that something so bulky is more efficient than vehicles 1/3 or 1/2 of it's size.

Granted, I don't stomp on it much, but I do drive mostly mixed roads, occasional highways, and my 35d holds a steady Lifetime 29.9 mpg.

What app is that Clifton? I'm using Fuelio and I don't like how it presents data (trying to be too pretty with the UI at the cost of usable info) compared to the one I used to use (became orphanware) or the one you posted.

Good numbers BTW. Ours is closer to 24mpg lifetime over 10k miles.

crystalworks - It's fuelly for iPhone, but it is also available on fuelly . com.

I have the free version and have been pretty happy with it. Beyond just fill ups, it let's me track service items too.
