Question on 1-piece carbon fiber rear diffuser install

I've been looking through the forums for a while, but haven't been able to track down the info I'm looking for, so any help is appreciated.

I recently bought the 1-piece CF rear diffuser for my 2012 650i M-Sport. I was able to get the OEM center piece off, but am running into a snag when trying to put the new piece on.

The first picture has the piece of plastic I am hitting that is preventing the install. Do I have to remove the entire bumper to get to that piece and remove it? Or is there a way to remove it I'm not seeing?

Also, am I better off just returning the 1-piece diffuser and buying the 2-piece which I assume is able to install over that plastic part?

Sorry the photos aren't great, but it's in storage for winter and it's a tight spot.

i tried what you’re attempting. discovered its better to the two piece set (upper and lower). at least thats what others have done - have not yet attempted. the one piece was impossible on my ‘14 F06

That is what I'm thinking at this point... I'm not sure if removing the bumper and getting rid of that adapter (part 8 http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/F1...ear/#8050387_8 ) would allow the 1-piece to fit, but not sure if that adapter being removed would cause other fitment issues?

And for the two piece versions, will those be able to clear that adapter? I'm looking at these options but can't tell:
