Just bought a 2020 M4 in Le Mans Blue

Hey guys!

Just picked up a 6 speed, 2020 M4 with the competition pack, 8500 miles and individual le Mans Blue! Love this thing and it feels similar-ish to my 2002 BMW M5.
1st thing I've ordered is the GTS coding from bimmer-remote and when I get the cable I'll set up the appointment, can't wait to get this coded. Called BMW NA and they said it shouldn't void the warranty but to check with my service advisor. Will also ask to get the active sound disabled.. lol

Not going to do any tunes, so as not to void warranty but probably will get the equal length midpipe to clean up the sound a little bit.

Also, I'm probably going to dyno the car just to see what it's at.. Are there any fuses to pull or anything like that or is it just get on the dyno and go?

Wouldn’t believe that unless I had it in writing from the SA.

“Shouldn’t void the warranty” sounds the same as “I don’t know” to me.

If your dct blows they got every right to not honor it.

Good news is tons of people run the gts flash with no problems, and honestly there's a solid chance they'd fix whatever your issue is under warranty anyway.

But just so you know, once a manager or someone who knows what they're talking about gets involved, they 100% can and might void warranty for trans repairs if they notice the flash.

Congrats on the car, beautiful color. Enjoy in good health.

This will 100% void the warranty if you bring it in for a trans related concern. Many of us have the GTS flash on our cars just understand the risks that go along with remote coding/tuning.

Congrats and welcome to the 2020 M4 club!

Please be careful modding your car in anyway. My SA wouldn't let me do much. All I was able to do is intake, midpipe and springs. Anything more and he said good chance of voiding warranty. My SA is a mod guy and a forum lurker so he knows pretty well what BMW will allow. He told me; any firmware upgrade on any module is reason to deny warrant on that component if issue pops up during the 4 years, even if it's from a CS or a GTS. Make sure you get a email or letter stating that it won't void your warranty before doing anything.

I'm amazed that someone who special ordered an Individual Le Mans Blue M4 would dump it with 8500 miles and less than 2 years on it. Must have had money to burn, or didn't know how to manage their money in the first place. I hope it wasn't due to losing their job due to COVID. Sad.

It was a lease and I think they mentioned he bought a new one.. The only thing missing is the CCB and Full leather, it has extended leather.. wondering about retrofitting a leather dash and door cards but probably shouldn't mess with it..

I talked to one of the service advisors today in person as well as the parts guys that used to be techs and they said anything that's oem software is completely fine.. Looking like those are good signs.. I even mentioned that my steering made a creaky noise to the SA today and he said after they do any work they might have to reflash it and I would have to go redo the gts flash

You can't say you've got a 6MT Le Mans F82 and not post pics, man.

Also, alternatively, ASD in your car can be disabled by just unplugging the thing in the trunk.

Dudes I've been trying to figure out how to upload pics from my phone but wasn't working lol the last time I was on a forum was m5board.com like 7 years ago I forgot how to use forums!

I paint corrected and ceramic coated it myself.. took 4 days. And just had the car tinted blah blah blah anyways, attached some pics! (First two not tinted or ceremic coated yet)

Congrats on finding a rare bird! I might be biased but I think the LMB is the shade that the F8x wears best.

On the GTS software; don't listen to your dealership unless they put it in writing and do the installation for you. I have OEM GTS software on mine and was flagged on a routine oil change service for having non-standard software, with a note that says something like 'transmission warranty coverage only if pre-approved by BMW NA' in the dealers vin inquiry. YMMV but I've had the software on my car for 5.5-6 years or so now, it's been great. After one dealer visit where they back-graded me to standard software again I really noticed how much better the GTS DCT tuning was, and had it re-uploaded within a few days. Same for GTS steering/diff coding as well, just my $0.02.

For your question on full leather retrofitting; the door cards would be pretty simple and risk-free. The dash, though, I see very differently. I wouldn't want to pull the whole dash out of any fairly new car for aesthetic purposes. IMO you're just asking for aggravating squeaks/rattles/creaks if doing that retrofit.

No special settings or disabling for dyno runs, I think just fully turning off traction/stability via holding the button for 4-5 seconds.

EL Mid will help, but I still think the car needs a rear section exhaust at the least. If the muffler diaper doesn't bother you yet, maybe save the coin for now; but if it irritates you the only way to resolve it is paint or swap. FWIW, I still love the AWE switchpath system I went with on delivery; every time I hear a stock or just midpipe car I think it sounds 'off'. (not like, it's not running, it just doesn't sound right to my ears after getting to hear a decent sounding S55 exhaust).

Best of luck, lovely ride you've got there. Enjoy it in good health!

What are you getting a GTS flash for if you have a 6 speed? You mentioned you aren't going to tune. Are you looking to get the DSC/EDC/Steering GTS flash?

Yes, I did the GTS steering, differential, and traction control settings as well as the CS EDC. It woke the car up a little, it's a subtle difference but it's a GOOD difference. The steering especially.. no more vagueness and the wheel feels more connected.
Before, when taking curves on the freeway, there would be a dead zone where the wheel seemed to be very sloppy, and it even seemed broken. But that's gone now.
Can't tell if MDM/Diff hooks up much better. The difference is slight, perhaps I spin the tires a wee bit less in 2nd, or it's just that it's spinning but not kicking the back out now.

OH AND I TURNED OFF ADS AND THE CAR IS FKING QUIET I'VE BEEN FOOLED ALL ALONG. No, seriously, the car was really loud before and I thought most of it was exhaust and engine noise but it wasn't.. I thought ADS adds only a little bit of sound but it was actually adding the majority of sound. Cabin is much quieter from road and exhaust noise, and I think the ads would pick up road noise too? Now I can put on an actual exhaust or midpipe and hear the real noise

Couple more pictures and a question...

Does anyone know how I would find whether the previous owner of my car is on the forums here somewhere?

Edit: Sorry my picture is sideways lol

Congrats on the ride. Beaut.

Re flash and being manual, just spoke to an independent shop locally and someone who bought an M2cs downshifted from 6th to 2nd and grenaded the crank (missed 4th on track) and because there was a tune on the car, BMW told him to have a good life. So far the bill is $25k and climbing.

300z under the cover?

Enjoy.

No tune, just coding of modules. Can’t void that warranty lol
Yes, 300zx twin turbo under the cover. Thinking about selling that one actually.. it has only 53k miles and in amazing condition!
