The euro e36 m3 (the 2nd gen, launched in 1995) was so far ahead in it's time.
Just look at what kind of cars/engines you had to get to match that 320hp back in 1995. (and what some of those cars weighed)
On par with the ferrari 348 (outgoing model in 1995) and not far behind with the f355. (I compare it to ferrari's because comparisons to audi and mercedes are just comical)
That would be equivalent with an M3 now having about 670Hp (number of hp that the 488 has)
As the current m3 only has 510HP, BMW definately has lost it's edge to the competition in comparison to 25 years ago.

Greatest car ever made.

Biggest regret I have is passing up on the chance to buy a techno violet one.

I had a chance to see the same car up close, and shoot it.

Looked great.

In 1995, Car & Driver said it was the best handling car on the market at any price. I love mine and will never get rid of it. Analog driving at its finest. I'm running PS4's and it's like a slot car on the twisties.

E30 m3 sold miserably in the US and the fact was BMW NA was not going to brimg the E36 M3 to The US market. This guy is lost on info at times and drives me nuts. The 215hp E30 was a euro EVO III and the NA spec E30 M3 was 193hp far cry from the NA spec E36 M3 minus the 38 S50B30 Canadian Spec that were imported up north. Wished he would do some more QC his articles.

Cmon man, if you're gonna quote stuff after saying someone else got it wrong, then at least get it right.

215bhp S14 was EVO II. EVO III was 238bhp

US S14 was 195bhp.

Is it just me or is Doug DeMuro unwatchable? The over the top antics, voice inflections, hand gestures, etc make me want to punch my laptop.

As an uncool awkward person myself, I find him relatable lol.

Having owned several e36 M3s (US spec), I can say they are great cars. Handles well, easy to work on, and easy on brakes and tires. Most have been used and abused, and will be very high maintenance in that case.

I actually starting watching this video and was really enjoying everything until he said it was for sale on Cars & Bids. His interest in the car should have been the first thing he said.

I haven't watched one of his videos in a while and I noticed this now as well. Probably he started to overdo it a while ago (based on some A/B testing?) as it seems to get him more views and/or more recognition value.

He was more "professional" in his early videos and it seemed very unnatural. This goofy side seems more like his actual personality.

Agreed but it was first thing in the am and I WAS LAZY, heading to the beach this morning. He Churns out videos and has followers, I do neither. I should have had it right. Appreciate you putting Evo II vs III.

This is probably the worst way to measure progress.

I drove a 520 HP AMG in 2007. By that measure Mercedes is the worst car company on the planet.

I learned to drive in one. In my lifetime it’s one of the few cars where I can distinctly remember the amazing mechanically connected feel of the steering and stick. It was clear who was in total control of the car (my uncle in the passenger seat on pins and needles lol jk)

It was an amazing introduction to driving.

I'm still building mine and it's been a blast. My F80 and F85 you plug a laptop into to work on; the E36 I can delete the ABS and Traction control by unplugging a wire and ripping out a component.

In the purists eyes I've destroyed the car with a Pandem body kit, but I believe it's one of the cars best suited to these kits.

3 cars off the top of my head with more HP in 1995:
Supra 320hp
Z 300hp
Corvette 300hp

Just saying the US spec was meh with 240hp 5 speed compared to the Euro spec with 321hp and a 6 speed. 81hp + a full gear missing
