Car Jerks and Lose Traction When Shifting at High RPM

Hi Guys,

I'm noticing this issue with my car when I shift above 6000 RPM the car rear wheel will jerk and traction light flash for couple times. This only happens in manual shift 3rd setting, but it doesn't do it when it shifts itself. is this normal? Why is this happening? I'm on BM3 stage 1 93. I don't think this was happening before I tuned the car, is it because too much torque? But why only in manual mode?

I have a 6 speed manual, BM3 stage 1 93 oct tune and i get this too or something similar on track. I turn off traction control tho. Car gets upset or floaty during the shift when trying to go for top speed on a long straight. I do think its the torque and the sudden off and on again action... best i can describe it is taking 1st gear to 5000rpm at WOT and then backing off to half throttle and then back to WOT...

Since you have traction control on, maybe thats whats causing your issue. Have you tried turning it off?

It could also be something in the tune as well. Maybe the mapping might make the engine do something that upsets it. I really dunno but wanted to let you know you are not alone.

try using 1 or 2bars OP.
On track anything above 2 would upset the balance of the car from what I remember.

I have everyhing in sport plus and traction in MDM.
when if only sport and shift bar 2 it doesnt do this.
I have DWS06+ all season now but I had PSS before and it did the same.
I will have to try turning traction control off to see if that gets rid of it.

Sounds like wheel spin from the added power. The manual shifts are seemingly more abrupt which may cause the tires to chirp.

Stickier tires may be the solution. When I bought my car it came with all seasons and they were the first thing I changed.

DCT adds forward inertia during a power upshift because the gear changes are so quick, causing the rear tires to momentarily slip. However, this only happens in a straight line because DME controls the ferocity of the shifts depending on the g-sensor inputs so you do not lose traction during cornering. Basically, it's the becauseracecar characteristic.

I would recommend opening the config option on the bm3 tune screen and setting torque reduction in 1st and 2nd gear. Personally I set mine to 20% in 1st and 10% in 2nd. Seemed to help keep the back end straight and reduced wheel spin/mdm intervention down.

Either disable TC completely or code Euro MDM.

Car is cutting power on upshift due to loss of traction.

Wider 200TW tires and warmer weather will help.

Nothing is wrong with your car. Also, why are you driving around in sport + on the street? The car won’t like it. Sport + settings are tuned for aggressive driving on a race track.

I've been driving in Sports+ on the street for years, my car loves it.
