The role of ZF in the 1 series
One of the items I read about the automatic tranmission is that it's a six speed that produces engine-rev matching in downshifts. Hmmm - I've driven several examples of the DSG gearbox (Audis and VWs) but was intrigued that a torque converter equipped automatic (planetary gearset) would do rev-matched downshifts. Is this the ZF six speed auto?
If so there is some info on this gearbox on the ZF site. |

Yes it is sir. I have this trannyin my 335i, the 335i was the first to get it and to my knowledge it will be used on the 135i and is also currently being offered alongside the "steptronic' transmission in the 535i as the "sportautomatic" transmission. FWIW, AT guys are seing faster quarter mile times the MT guys on the 335i's. It's the "sportiest" auto tranny I've ever driven. |
