Now the wait for Cdn pricing...
So the US pricing has been released...but I'm still left with an unsatisfied feeling of "how will that translate to Canadian..."
I'm not trying to start a "well $X US converts to $X cdn, so that means BMW better make $X or I'll be pissed" thread... but rather continuing to wait for "my" price... |

Yeah, my dealer emailed me with some pictures from the auto show yesterday, but he says BMW is still being tight lipped up here. I figure though, at the highest end, it won't be more than $44k CDN, which is a pretty astronomical number if you ask me, but its just taking into account that there is about a $8k-$9k difference between the CDN/US equivalent 3-series. And that price diff scales for the 3-series, ie; 328i CDN is $8k more than its US counterpart, and the 335i is $9k more than the American counterpart.
So I figure the MSRP will be about $7k more than the US #, so about $42k-$43k ish. And then I figure we may get a rebate on top of that similar to whats goin on with the 3 series. Personally I'm *realistically hoping* (oxymoron) for about $42.5k less a rebate of say $1500, so $40k-ish? But I'm also preparing for something closer to $44k (at which point I may get a friend in San Fran to try and pick one up and bring it across or settle for something else altogether.... who am I kidding, I'll still get it actually). Hope for the best, prep for the worst. |

Well, the prices are what they are.
Fair? No, they are f'n ridiculous but what can we do? :iono: For the brave one's there is always the option of cross border shopping. I'm hoping 128 for about 32-33K, but I won't hold my breath. |

I think we'll see something before the end of the year. Since BMWNA has already released US pricing, I don't think CDN is too far behind, the only thing that may slow it up is uncertainty around the currency, but even that can be solved by using rebates to establish pricing (which is what they're already doing) since rebates can be adjusted with relative ease as opposed to prices that will be relatively fixed for the model years. |

We should run a Monte Carlo simulation around this and get some probablistic numbers around potential Canadian pricing. |

Oh, good call. In any case, I wouldn't be surprised to see Canadian pricing in this ballpark (Minus Destination)

Wow...so far I'm reserving judgment until I get offical pricing for here in Canada... From there I've already drawn my line in the sand of what I "justify" spending on a 1'er...if it's above that mark, then no Bimmer in my Garage...if it's below, WOO HOO:headbang: After all, it's a car, and it fails to meet my criteria, i'll have to find something else, or wait another year or 2 until some used ones do...or if it flops(which I doubt) and dealers are dying to get them off the lots... |

What is your logic in assuming that the MSRP for the Canadian 128i will be 30% more than the U.S. 128i when the Cdn 328i Coupe MSRP is only 23% more than the U.S. 328i Coupe???:iono: Even the delta between the Cdn & U.S. 335i coupes is only 26%. It seems somewhat counter-intuitive to me that the percentage difference between the Cdn & U.S. 1ers would actually INCREASE when our dollar has appreciated against the EURO (let alone the U.S. buckaroo)... |

So your $37K also makes no sense. BMW Canada generally lowers the % diff between Canadian & U.S. for the lower priced models (e.g. the % delta increases in real and percentage terms the higher up the model ladder). There is no reason to believe that they will reverse this practice just for the 128i - that would not make any business sense. Based on BMW Canada's existing pricing algorithm, it would appear more likely that the % delta between the Cdn & U.S. 128i will be more in the 20% range putting the 128i Cdn MSRP approx $34,500. |

Makes sense. To be honest, I did not consider the changing delta from highend to lowend. Like I said, I was really just playing with numbers on a graph.
It's all speculation in the meantime and I would LOVE to have to eat my words when all is said and done. |
