What would it take...
We all know that the 1 has more potential to be a more hardcore driving machine. So what would it take to make it closer to the evo on the track (and I'm not talking about stripping it out, unless that's the only way)?

I would say good set of tires would definitely help, along with minor suspension upgrades...sways f/r, with springs. I don't recall it being that far behind anyway.

With the above, I'm sure it would seal the deal. I freakin hope so anyway. We have enough power, so that isn't the issue.

Ask the folks who converted a 135i for "One Lap of America"

IMO, at a minimum the 135i needs rear sways, different shocks, and a more square tire setup to even be anywhere near the Evo (which admittedly I haven't driven), and that's if you put up with body roll.

+1. And for a real track car, you might look for more aggressive seats. The sport seats are too soft for my liking.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but this is a cool video comparing the two. Hope this hasn't been posted yet; it's my first post!:

ya it has it in straight line but, I remember watching a clip of a comparo and the evo was quicker around a track. That mean there's room for improvement for the 135....what would it take to get the 135 up beat it on the track?

That comparison had both cars running stock. The biggest difference stock is the tires. The Evo comes with Yokohama track tires stock, the 135i comes with run flats which are not the best for the track. So simply replacing the tires would have made that test a lot closer. Beyond that a few suspension upgrades and a lot of practice and you should be able to beat up on an Evo.

Tires is probably the cheapest to replace and give you the best Bang for Buck. Next will be a set of good coilover and sway bars (have you seen that pencil thick OEM sway!?) If you've done everything right, it'll be a close match with the Evo. If you have more money to spare, a lot more, get a LSD. But for around $8-9k for the LSD + install, for most ppl, I'd assume they will use that money and go nuts with engine mods (e.g. ecu reflash, 3" catless tbe, intercooler, oil cooler, etc)

I think the 135i in the test was an auto. The manual version may have possible performed better around the track.

It's amazing the 135i can weigh 3400+lbs. Cars are so overweight these days. Five years ago it would have weighed between 3100-3200lbs, as that was the average for a luxury sport coupe like the Acura 3.2CL TypeS or the Lexus IS300, both of which were larger cars yet significantly lighter.
