(Not a) Good Price?

I've received a sales quote from South Bay BMW for a 2009 M3 with Space Grey, Premium Package,Tech Package, Ipod, Fold down seats with a manual transmission.

I was quoted an MSRP of $63650, an Internet Price of $61325, which gives an out-the-door price of $66945. South Bay claims the invoice price is $59220. There are fees that are not included on online websites such as Destination and Handling, MACO and training fee that are all part of BMW invoice.

Edmunds gives an MSRP of $56,215 (not including destination ($825) and gas guzzler ($1,300) ($58,340)). I see almost 4k in profit, which is way too much.

Any thoughts?

It is smart to deal with the Internet Sales Manager, but there is more than $4K between invoice and MSRP in the car. I'd shop it a bit more. Try Michael K. at Center BMW.

He's insinuating that Edmunds' invoice prices are inaccurate.

They are, last I looked, but only slightly - they don't reflect the calendar year 2009 price hike (add $320 to the invoice on an M3, or $350 to the MSRP):

Also, there will be the $180 (I think) training fee, the $400-$500 MACO (I forget), and the $50-$60 documentation free (I forget), which all add up to "dealer invoice." So, figure dealer invoice is ~$1000 more than edmunds invoice, once you tally up all that stuff.

$500-1000 over the invoice is fair. I was about $1000 over including all the dealer add ons and the mats, wheel locks etc. About $500 over without that stuff. Bargain on markup and not discount. In other words, tell them you want your price quoted as $XXX over wholesale invoice. To easy for confusion when they start with the XXXX off of sticker quotes.

Im just saying that it would appear that the invoice price that they are quoting seems a bit high. (My e90 had just over $6k difference in it from invoice to MSRP) Then on top of that they want $2+K, a no go... PM me and I can put you in touch with my guy in the valley.

You guys are crazy to offer anything over invoice for a car in this market. Even an ordered car.

If you're looking at a '08 M3 and offer anything more that 10%-20% less than invoice you're going to take a bath when you try to sell it. Unless of course it's paid off when you sell it. Look at the market. The car as pegged by BMW's residual values is about 49-51% at the end of 3 yrs. That means you are going to lose about 20% the first yr. of ownership, about 18% the second yr. of ownership and about 12% the 3rd yr of ownership. Why would you pay invoice for a car that should be selling way behind invoice? As soon as you sign the papers the car is going to lose 20% of it's value to the public. A car (or any product is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it today! Not what the dealer says the price is.

O by the way BMW of Tulsa has 3 '08's on the lot, coupe, sedan, and conv. all manuals.

Where have you heard of anyone getting invoice+0 on an ordered car? I sure haven't.

Just go to BMWNA, build your car, subtract 4k from it, and you have yourself an average deal.
