Motorsports Ranch vrs Harris Hill
I'm pretty sure I want to continue performance driving as a hobby, possibly even as a family thing when my kids get old. Debating on membership with MSR (Cresson) or H2R.
H2R Pros: Closer to Killeen Cheaper entry fee More member days MSR Pros: More track configurations Cheaper sessions ($20 for 1/2 hour) I'm leaning towards MSR since it has the 1.7 cw/ccw, 1.3, and 3.1 since I will likely live with this track for a long time. Looking for input from anyone that has been on both tracks and/or is a member. Thanks

Isn't MSR's joining fee substantially greater than that of H2R? For me the choice is easy, I spend my time in Houston and Austin, and rarely make it up to DFW.

MSR - $3400, H2H - $2500.
H2H is $60 for a 2 hr session. MSR is $20 for a 1/2hr session. I think I'm leaning towards H2R but they do have a noise restriction.

did MSR get rid of the monthly dues? take that into consideration as well... from what i remember MSRs monthly dues can't get applied to track time, whereas eagles canyon your monthly dues i beleive count towards the session fees which is a big advantage as far as cost is concerned....
not sure how HHR handles it. |

AFAIK MSR still has montly dues plus per session fees.
ECR has monthly dues and no per session fees or the monthly fees are applied to the daily fees (depending on what membership level you have). |

Money is close enough to not really matter that much. I'm a member at H2R.
MSR: faster track, more track options, onsite support (Topp, PST...), garage space for $$, far enough away that you can't make a quick morning or afternoon run. Dallas, for better or worse. H2R: smaller track, more technical, greater depth of learning long term, more suited to lightweight cars, limited facilities until they build the skidpad and garages, close enough where you can just go run for two hours and not have to make a day of it which means more track time. Smaller group of low key central Texas type drivers. I can tell you that H2R has a very cool atmosphere, they put on member races of all sorts, put together LeMons teams for members, family events, Formula 1 parties...there's not a lot of track attitude. |

How crowded are the member sessions, especially on Mon & Tues morning?

Past events were the Soverignty Shootout: a 3 man team each consisting of a 4/6/8+ cylinder car from the same country against other teams. Then you have the paintball thing, one driver, one shooter then swapping, best combined hit score and lap time won. The best one was the one tank enduro. Run whatever you want with a team but no refueling, most laps wins, no race cars. We ran a CRX and but got beat by a Ferrari of all things. Family BBQ days, friends and family lapping days, they run Spokes AutoX and planning an old-skool gymkana soon. The Owners are there every day and run the place, they used to own the local Lotus dealership so lots of L cars. |

H2R does have a pretty tight noise restriction though. my car was to loud, they told me to drive "part throttle" so i didn't make him go get his dB meter and test me
needless to say my drive from irving to H2R for 2 full speed sessions and 1 part throttle session was only ok. considering the first session i was learning the track, second session started to get comfortable, then they said it was to loud and i had to back off. the 4th session i skipped out on because a friend had a broken car so i fixed it for him. my observations other then the noise thing being sucky, the clubhouse was sweet! they had F1 on in the big screen, drinks available, and good seating. the track itself is fun. technical, and not super fast, makes it very different then ECR or MSR. i did enjoy the layout of the track. next time i'll quiet my exhaust down a bit and maybe they will let me play longer. i'm also going to try and drive in the instructors group next time out... my car is pretty quick and they told me to be careful around the other cars as i would come up on them quickly... haha. |

Thanks for the info. The noise restriction does kind of concern me. But it sounds like there are lots of other fun things to do.
The MSR clubhouse was OK. It does have some retail facilities. The garages are cool but don't really need one. Is there race fuel available at H2R? Kind of leaning towards H2R.

I would like to mention that Eric and Bo who run H2R are simply the nicest people you will ever work with. I run a LeMons team and I have organized several events at H2R. They do everything possible to make us welcome. Hope H2R works out!

I'll second that!!! Those guys are awesome, not at all up tight, unlike the staff of other tracks I've visited.

Just curious, are you running a red car in LeMons? I remember seeing a LeMons car at Soul Speed back in Feb.
