VMR 20" CSL a possibility???

I emailed VMR about producing a 20" VB3 CSL style wheel. They replied that if they see enough interest, that they would consider it. How many of you would be interested?

What are you talking about??? Why would the weight be so much more? There are many companies that have succesfully created replica wheels in 20" with reasonable weights...

Could be a hot look if they are extremely concave in the rear.

18's are about 25 lbs. A 20" CSL rep shouldn't be too heavy.

That is NOT EVEN REMOTELY POSSIBLE without compromising the integrity of the wheel itself. No company on this planet can build a strong, durable, 20" CAST CSL replica wheel that weighs 20-25 lbs. (not even the mighty BBS)

The wheel you speak of only exists in fairy tales.

You can barely manage to build a 20" 8000 TON FORGED (CSL style) wheel to those weight specifications. (and even that is pushing the envelope)

Current CAST wheel manufacturing technology simply won't allow any responsible company to build such a product. And if some idiot did market such a product, you'd be a fool to buy it...as it would surely fail in short order. And only god knows what kind of damage it would cause, when it breaks apart while you are driving the car...

I have to get something off my chest...

There is a fundamental breakdown in regards to what 'is' or 'isn't' possible around here.

It's important to understand that there are LIMITS to the modern wheel manufacturing methods. (used to build aftermarket wheels today)

You guys need to understand this, so you don't get 'suckered' or 'duped' by some slick snake oil saleman.

From my experience, 75% of all the wheel companies out there are simply hyping a somewhat inferior product (from a material construction and engineering standpoint), and are simply out to make a quick buck. There are dozens of new wheel brands that have popped up this year alone, and guys are lined up to buy them without asking a single legitimate question. I believe that's because they don't even know WHAT to ask...let alone why it even matters.

You will read entire threads where no one even bothers to ask a relevant question like "What's the offset of that wheel" or "Exactly how much does it weigh in those sizes" or "Are those wheels painted or powdercoated".

All you hear is "Wow, those wheels are sick" or "Love it" or "PM me a price to..."

Every new wheel buyer should have some basic knowledge of HOW wheels are built, and WHY it's so important for them to know this before they buy anything. That's probably the most frustrating thing about reading the posts in this section of the board. The less you know, the more likely it is that you will get snowed by the slick marketing BS I see from charlatans that are peddling their wares.

Knowledge is power guys. So if you're smart...you'll all make a 'crib' (cheat) sheet on basic wheel information, so you don't get screwed over by all the used car salesman that pop up around here from time-to-time.

The original owner of 360 forged is a great example. He is still trying to scam people by starting a new wheel company brand every other week. Even after everything this guy has done...there are (believe it or not) guys who are tripping over themselves to hand there money over to him. Unfreaking believable...

I am a strong CONSUMER advocate, and that's the only reason I even bother to post on the internet at all. I'll take the position of the little guy over the corporation any day of the week. My primary goal is to help out other car guys, by directing them towards proven products that I know have excellent quality, sold build construction, competent management, and good customer service. (so they are insured of getting there money's worth)

As many of you have seen, I am not shy about taking on any company out there.

I do not like to see anyone getting taken advantage of in a business transaction. That really bothers me a great deal. (probably more than it should)

Little does the consumer know, but these company's have so many built-in escape paths. This is why I always stress that everyone take a deep breath, and look into any aftermarket company, where you are required to pony up thousands of dollars of your hard earned money.

I promise that it will keep you from making some pretty dumb mistakes (based on poor judgment) in the future.

if theres gonna be a 20'' CSL wheel i say you have to make it forged.
20'' cast isnt too reasonable.
Monoblock Forged FTW!

and for MAXIMUM concavity!!!

For a 20" wheel go with a Forged or Flow Formed wheel instead.

Well FWIW, I also contacted them about making some bigger size wheels, ie. 20" or 10.5" for rears.

I got the same exact response. "If there is enough interest we would consider it." Well there are a lot of people buying 20"s for their M3's and I am even debating not getting VMR's just because I want a 19x10.5.

So they are definitely loosing business by not offering more sizes of their wheels.

Dont waste your time going that route! VMR has been using that same old "if we get enough interest" reply ON ALL THE FORUMS they're on for a while nowand the thing is i see the same posts popping up which is proof that alot of folks want these bigger sized rims!!! SO I KNOW VMR KNOWS IT, but something is keeping them back from venturing out (dont know why they just wont come out and say it). I mean why would you make a 19x10 in only one rim style, and not make it in the others?

Their lack of pursuit into expanding their rims sizing on all their wheels is beyond me when there is GOBS of money for them and "others" to make. Same goes for Alufelgen, dont see them making a variety of sizes and offsets like that either.

I have no idea what their up against when it comes to their wheel sizing choices which is why I want somebody WHOS IN THE BUSINESS to come on here and post the reason why so we can lay this hope dream to rest. Im sure there's reasons why these wheel companies just dont go there! Just seems like there all playing it safe i guess.....

There is a 20" cast wheel coming out soon.

But lets get the facts out: they will NOT be lightweight. It is impossible to make a lightweight cast wheel in 20" if you are at all concerned about safety.

The wheels will be powdercoated.

Offsets will be made public.

They are due out in a few months (March-April). I will start a group buy as soon as they are 100% ready for production.
