What other cars did you look at before picking the z4?
Just wondering....
For me, i looked at cars of all types. In the end it came down to 3 cars, the mb e350 coupe, the audi a5 and the z4. Chose the z4 because i thought it was the best looking of the 3 and drove the best. the a5 had the best interior and has good looks but unless you go with an s5, the performance is terrible as it is greatly underpowered. how about you guys? |

Before release of the first photos of our Z I was looking for used Porsche 997 4s. Maybe it's just me but the whole package of the pors couldn't convince me that it was a car of 130.000euros as new including the lovely tax fees we have here in Greece. In fact the interior looked really poor and aged. When I saw the first unofficial photos of the zed I never looked back at the 997 and in fact I was spending ages on the web to find more pics. I arranged somehow to see in person the first cars that arrived at the customs and was absolutely blown away. I will never forget how I felt. It was a sculpture on wheels, looked like it landed from space or something and reminded me of the 300SL Gullwing. A few hours later I was placing my order.................

took wonderful wife to look at 2009 Porsche 911S (my dream car, not hers) and yes, believe it or not, she preferred the Z4; I love the Z4 and I am glad we bought it as it saved me some serious scratch - my wife thinks Porsches look bland and that the Z4 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road

Just sold my M6 (great car but 11mpg). Looked at the 335i and Audi. Once I drove the Z4 35i that became an easy decision to make. I got the Z4 35i, 7spd dual clutch, 19" wheels, Nav, Black/black interior. Love the car, but the one I got has the standard sound system (weak at best). Will look for upgrades soon.

4 Alternatives were considered
2010 Corvette Convertibe or 2010 Corvette Grand Sport- considered moving from my 2007 Corvette Coupe to one of these. Eventually decided I wanted something totally different. I don't consider the Z4 better than the Corvette or the Corvette better than the Z4. They are just 2 very different vehicles.
2009 Audi TTS - test drove one. Where's the torque??!! Style and driving dynamics seemed too juvenile for me. Nissan 370Z Roadster - Roadster not at dealerships at time of purchase back in July, so I test drove a Coupe. Once again - where's the torque!!!? Coming from a Corvette, I could feel the HUGE lack of torque. Plus, I already owned a 2005 350Z Roadster, and decided I really did not want to go back to basically the same car again. Porsche Boxster used 2008 or new 2009 - 11 year old body style and plain jane interior. Vey quickly eliminated based on these 2 glaring negatives!!! No need to even test drive one. Porsche Boxster
Test drove 2009 both standard and S version. It drives very well and the engine wailing when its revved is just awesome. but like someone already said the interior just a bit let down. Since its going to be my main car, I want at least some comfort/luxury. Lotus Evora From what I heard this supposed to be even better driver's car than the boxster. However when I went to the dealer, they couldn't give me any information about the car. they know it will come in 2010, but no answer about price, ordering info, estimate availability/waiting list, brochure, etc. They said I have to talk to the lotus specialist which is not in that day. But that made me worried, only one guy in the dealer who know about the car? How many people in the service department will know about the car? That and the fact that I'm really addicted to convertible, made me not to go with the evora. --r

I had a 2010 Corvette convertible on order but could not get comfortable with the deal or the dealer and - after several delivery delays - got the dealer to mutually agree to cancel the order, deposit returned.
Z4 was always either first or second choice — after the C6 deal went dead, it was the sole choice. Am totally pleased with the Z4, no regrets. |

S5 Cabriolet : exterior looks dull and bored
Audi TT : performance not as good Porsche 997 Cabriolet : totally impossible for my occasional golf set Mercedes SL 500 : looks ugly compared to the last generation My decision was made when I visited the BMW showroom. This new Z4 is so attractive, so sexy. The interior is so elegant, filled with a lot of genuine leather everywhere. When I went into the detailed spec. I found so many innovations and high-tech elements in it. They couldn't arrange a 35i for the test drive, so I tested the 23i. To my surprise, the acceleration and handling was so good, even compared with my 335i. I thought the iDrive 35i must be even better.............. I proved it when I got my new toy! |

I was planning on getting another beemer from the start. Only other car I considered was the 335 coupe as I truly love the 3 series, but ever since the camo pictures of the car started popping up online last year I knew I just had to have the Z.

I went to buy an Audi TT, but after loads of negotiating the dealer still could not do the deal that I wanted (loads of money for my part ex Cooper S )
So, went back to Mini to look at the JCW, but saw the Z4 in the BMW showroom opposite and just had to order one. The deal on the Z4 was even better than I had wanted, nice big discount and loads for the part ex. So pleased that we couldn't agree on a deal at Audi, the Z4 is Superb!!!!! Stu |

I actually went to the dealership looking to trade in my Acura MDX for a X5 35d, but found out that the X5 in diesel was totally sold out and the dealer couldn't even order one.....so I saw the Z4 there and started thinking maybe I'll keep the Acura as a winter car and the Z for the summer......and the math actually worked out the I could lease the Z and keep the Acura for the same price as trading in the Acura and getting the X5

Was extremely happy with my chipped 120d Limit Sport Ed and the missus' job moved about 90 miles further away so I took her down the the dealer and put her into a new X1 to replace her aging 1999 318ti, she determined in about 41nanoseconds that the X1 was actually a truck , on the way out of the dealer ship she sat in a silver sDrive2.5, complained about it being too low, I adjusted the seat and she said "You don't need more than 2 seats to go to work, so here I was with a 48lb trout on 3lb line . As we were going out the front door there was a fully loaded black sDrive3.0 [Dealer Demo], for about 50% off list - so she took my beloved 120d and I "had" to settle for something with less seats. I this woman....

I had an X3 at end of lease and test drove lots of little SUVs. None appealed to me so I narrowed it down to a 328i touring or another X3. I then saw a Z4 on the lot and thought I should at least test drive it. I had never been interested in a roadster, never considered the Boxter, SLK, or others, but fell for the Z4 styling and drive. I was set to order a 3.0i but was talked into a loaded 35i on the lot. At the time (late June), a got a better deal on the 35i than if I ordered a 3.0i.

Lotus Exige S - great but but for daily driving (25 kmiles a year) and the hassle with taking of the top
Porsche Boxster S/Cayman S - couldn't make a choice between these 2, and disliked salesman handling at local stealer Z4 - when I saw it first time (Jan 2009), the concept (roof), N54, the looks, the transmission (DCT), ordered it immediately (not on pricelist at that time), took the testdrive several months later, one happy driver now
