Purchased 1'er after the Lease...?

Has anyone purchased their 1'er after their lease or at least is thinking about it? Mine one is leased and I'm starting to think about buying it because it's been such a great car and I don't really want to put miles on the pcar. I was just wondering how likely the dealership is to sticking to their residual value. Considering the market still stinks and I could go pick up a brand new car for what they thought the residual value would be in 24 months (now)... I'm wondering if they will negotiate.

Has anyone done this yet? I know there's most likely a small number of people since I got my one 2 months after they came out but I'm looking for any answers.

Thanks

1st delivered 1ers in the US were in late March 2008. There's still 4 months to go. I can see people starting to use the early trade up program, but nobody will have turned in their 24 month lease yet, in term.

I know, mine is April... still looking for anyone who has potentially talked to their BMW sales agent and negotiated... just wondering.

i would talk to the lease company not your dealer.

most lease companies i hear are willing to deal with you since they do not want to have to deal with selling the car when they take it back and all the expenses with that.

my lease will be up 5/10 and i think i've made the decision already to NOT purchase it. I think the remaining funds would be in the $24,000 range. I love the car, but sice i;ve had it (18 months) my 1er has been in the shop over 5 times.

unfortunately i think im going to have to make a move that i thought i would never do....go American. I think i may see a c5 Z06 in the future, but only time will tell

Be careful, my friend's 2003 C5 Z06 has been to the dealership twice for synchros and 3 times because his valve springs keep failing. They will not cover any repairs now and the last time he just replaced all of them himself. My dad has a 2004 C5 Z06 though and drives it just as hard but has no failures other than a window not rolling down and a fuel line leak. Both cars are not modded other than tires.

If you can swing a C6, you will be much happier. You can find well priced C6 with the Z51 package and it will be a much better car than the C5. I've had a 2001 and 2006 Z06, and the C6 is just a better platform. The HID flush headlights are also a huge plus especially coming from a BMW.
If power is your quest, you can make them very fast with a few mods and not worry like you do with the Bimmer.

just got back from my local BMW dealer b/c my 1er lease is up in 3 months - so far BMW hasn't released any data on the lease turn ins for the 1 series. They won't know until december/jan.

if you find anything out let me know - i'm not keeping mine.

Ag!!! So frustrating. I'll let you know anything I find out. I do want to keep mine, but only at a reasonable price. If they want too much I'll just go find something else I have my eye on.

Thanks for the info.

I can't speak for private leasing companies, but I expect that 99% of these cars that are on leases are with BMWFS and I know that's not how they operate. The lease turn-ins give dealers a steady, predictable supply of cars to sell as CPO cars priced at the top end of the market for a given model. Right now the CPO market is hot and many dealers need more inventory. There are a dozen or more variables that come into play in determining whether your dealer will sell the car to you for less than the contract buyout amount, the only thing that's a given is the days of 12-18 months ago of dealers glutted with cars they couldn't move and BMWFS slashing buyouts many thousands of dollars are long gone.

If memory serves the original 24 month lease had high money factors and strong residuals that IMO were probably premised on the idea that these cars would be more desirable and sell better than they have. For those folks there may be some bargaining room with their dealers, everything ultimately turns on whether and how badly a given dealer wants a given car for their CPO inventory.

One thing's for sure, the best way to make sure you don't get a discount off of the contract residual is to start beating down your dealer's door months before your lease is up telling them you want to buy your car out off lease

Went to dealership. Residual value will be discounted for 2008's and 2009's- but they won't have the price until mid December-ish due to the economic trend. I'm moving on, I'll find something else by March.

Thanks for the information everyone.

Good deal. The market for cars is just like the stock market, wholesale prices constantly fluctuate up and down. I'm not sure why you would have thought a dealer would be able to offer you a defined, discounted buyout on your car 4 months before turn-in without even laying eyes on it. I would slow your roll a bit, being impulsive in decisions that involve cars rarely produces good results in my experience

It's only 2 weeks off date wise until "mid december"... so I don't see why you think I was so off by this. Also, they don't need to see my car at all - per sales agent. He said he can give me the quote over the phone.

Also, all of my car purchases have been impulsive and I've loved every single one of them - including the 1. I just don't want to buy this as my daily driver.

Thanks for the input
