Arrow Advice Needed on Removing Brake Dust Shields

My StopTech BBK is on the way...

Although the front dust shields are compatible with the BBK with minor modifications, I am inclined to remove them anyway...

Also the rears need to be completely removed.

My question is: are these truly just 'dust shields'? Do they provide any heat shielding effects when the rotors are hot? Are there any ill effects to removing them?

TIA!

They are dust and splash shield. If you do take off like I did then you will notice when it is wet out that will effect braking in you are going through fair sized puddles but it is fine 99% of the time. I am running PFC 1038 pads and they are not very good at all for anything so this may effect the wet braking. Cool Carbon has pad coming out soon front and rear with wear sensor slots so I expect a major improvement.
