My Alignment and Corner Balance Numbers
Got my car aligned at West End in LA. Good experience. Here are the numbers.
I am on OE 19s and tires with KW variant 3's. Front: Left Camber: -1.5 Right Camber: -1.5 Left Caster: 7.0 Right Caster: 6.5 (must have hit a pothole) Toe In: 1/16 in = 0.0625 Rear: Left Camber: -1.75 Right Camber: -1.75 Toe In: 1/8 in = 0.125 Last edited by rsmamg; 01-13-2010 at 11:59 AM.. |

How much did they charge for that?
It's suppose to be a very good shop.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Except for the rear camber, those are very similar to the numbers from my recent alignment:
Front: Left Camber: -1.5 Right Camber: -1.5 Left Caster: 7.3 Right Caster: 7.1 Toe In: 1/16 in = 0.0625 Rear: Left Camber: -1.7 Right Camber: -1.7 Toe In: 1/8 in = 0.125 The general consensus in my post was that the toe was at max, and should probably be closer to zero in front. I just put on springs, but our toe numbers are identical. Did you ask for that much toe, or did they just do the alignment and it turned out that way? |

I'm sure your corner balance is ok. It's just that a good shop will show you the numbers and they won't work out perfectly (they never do). Then they'll explain why. A not so good shop will fudge the numbers so you don't ask any questions and they can get you out the door. Your car is probably balanced just fine. I just think they fudged the numbers. But now you don't know how close they actually got it.

This is true. Had my E46 M3 corner balanced and aligned there with excellent results. The man knows what he's doing. Night and day difference.

I recently got my alignment done by Darin at West End as well. Incredibly cool guy.He did the alignment with me sitting in the car and it took like more than an hour.
On my way home, I get to test it throughout on the freeway etc. I notice that when holding my steering wheel, the car goes perfectly straight. But as soon as I let the steering go, my car will go to the right almost 95% of the time within 2 seconds. What do you guys think is the problem? I did called and asked him about it but he said he cant do much with adjusting the casters since I dont have any aftermarket camber plates and suspension etc. My car is dropped with H&R Springs and that's all. Thanks for any help! |

I installed V3s as well and had corner weights done.
My results were spot on square within about 3-5 kgs difference on all four corners. I would be interested to know how you set you ride height, as this is possibly why your fronts are heavier? The guys who set up for me, said something about getting it perfect if they make up a custom sway bar set up?? I'm not sure, but not likely you would get as perfect as you without this? Let me know the ride height, pics would help to. You can see my set up pics on this thread http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346061 |
