Exhaust with best performance results
I apologize in advance as I know these topics are brought up over and over and over again. I am looking to purchase an exhaust relatively soon and I would like to get something that provides performance gains as well a nice sound (no cabin drone)
Currently the two exhausts I am interested in is the 1. RPI 2. Remus Race Any advice, testimonials, dyno sheets or any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance fellas. -Vin |

Out of those two RPi will win hands down with putting power down.
If you want to factor in sound while sacrificing little to no performance with minimal to no drone I'd look into the Gintani sport.

personally i cant understand how some axlebacks can only make 5hp and others 15hp...it just doesnt make sense when they are all so similar in design....the real gains are in the midsection, but why such large discrepancies.
for instance, akra slip on claims 5hp, the vanguard equivalent around 15hp, dinan around 6hp, gintani around 14hp....these guys all know what they are doing, so what gives???

RPi GT exhaust is insane, i love it
I think the most powerful though would probrably be Gintani Race Id love to see a comparison on the same dyno and car with Gintani Race vs. RPi Remus race is just an axel back, its definetly not number 2 on the list of most powerful lets try do a list right now, feel free to add and correct, lets get a real list going from highest to lowest HP gains (btw this is with no chip combinations, just straight up exhaust numbers) 1. Gintani Race 2. RPi GT Race 3. Gintani Sport 4. Akrapovic Full System 5. Amuse Ericcson 6. Dinan Full System 7.? 8. ?

There's many other factors to consider, such as any other mods you have or are going to add, like pulleys, ecu tune, filter, etc.
That being said I've heard good gains from the RPI and the Akrapovic.

Gintani seems a lot more deeper in sound than the RPI..they both seem like two different animals in terms of sound. I am leaning towards the RPI sound a little more based off the youtube vids..Anyone know if the RPI drones significantly? Also it would be cool if we could see dyno results on both exhausts.
Spencer: very good point as it would be ideal to benefit completely with other supporting mods as well. Thanks, Vin |

I have heard the RPI system I don't really like it that much.
there is this rasp sound that I don't understand it sounds like something is loose inside the exhaust. oh and more flow will help out with power out up.

I am not sure where the others rank in power, but the DINAN is as follows from their website. They are pretty accurate when rating their products, but you can use these numbers as a gauge. DINAN Exhaust - 6 hp and 5 lb/ft torque DINAN Mid-Pipe - 23 hp and 21 lb/ft torque .

Pretty sure the Dinan figures require the software tune for the mid section but not the rear. Agreed they usually post realistic and repeatable gains, but for the mid section you may want to check their site.
Gintani race is insane sounding, but louder than most. Alex at Gintani is the real deal. I trust their figures too. |

if your going for straight up power then the midpipe is where it is at. in my op that is what will net the most power. if you just want a better sound then you can do just a axle back but if you want both then go midpipe combo
i know when i added my midpipe it totally changed the car. it rips now and sounds awesome if you would do a midpipe too then i would highly reccomend the Dinan one with the rear combo. it has no drone at all and once you put the midpipe on with it then it really rips if you insist on just a muffler only then prob a different one will have more then the Dinan but then you will have some drone at some point in the rpm range other then a Akra but then there rear is about where Dinans power is seems like the axle backs that have no drone at all are the ones that don't make as much as other rear mufflers but those that make higher hp drone more. in my op the midpipe is the best mod for this car, really wakes it up. maybe you could do a midpipe and leave the stock rear??

Also another factor is the engine itself not one M3 can make the same exact power. Like the E46 M3 you have some factory freaks out there bone stock that laid down more power than other M3s. To many factors in play here. If your looking for sound its all about the axel back systems. If you want more power do the mid pipe!!!

that is the truth right there. i used to go to the BMW meets and one of the guys there had the fastest recorded stock E46 M3 SMG in the USA. his car was a friggin freak. i watched that car eat up modded ones all day long. 0-60, from a roll, 60-100, you name it. unless the M3 had a SC or turbo kit on it he would pretty much beat all ofthem with his stock car. man guys would be so pissed off, including myslef. he didn't smoke mine but he did beat me. i had a 6sp too so that didn't help from the dead stop runs
do you know if that is like that with these E9x M3's?? i know there was quite a few freak E46 M3's and E39 M5's as my E39 M5 was a freak so i got lucky with that one. i haven't read much about freaks with these M3's thanks Quote:

I had a freak 08 m3. It made 333whp stock on a low reading dyno dynamics.

I guess I'm looking for the best of both worlds. At this point in time, I am leaning towards the RPI axel back for now and eventually adding the midpipes as well. Thanks for all the useful information guys.

i assume you need cats being in NY right?? i have FL plates so that is why i can get away with no cats on mine as you don't need any inspection on the car for FL like in NY
if you need the cats, and you have the loot to spend the full Akra system is nice and light weight
