End of 1 Series?

Before I buy a 128, has anyone heard anything about the discontinuation of the BMW 1 series in the U.S.? I've heard two different things both from BMW dealers. One tells me the end is insight, another tells me that's hogwash? Thoughts??

Can't see that happening--we are supposed to be getting the M1 in about a year's time--can't see them stopping the sales of the 1er over here....

And if they do, so what? Did the 8 series become less desirable after they were discontinued?

I saw those spy shots. If thats how the next generation 1 series is going to look, than i will never be interested. Even if its M1.

Europe gets the hatchback...as well as the coupe and vert. They've had it a lonnng time compared to the coupe/vert.

The 1-series is a huge seller for BMW, so rumors of it going away are - IMHO - without merit.

Doubtful but the WSJ rumored that BMW is introducing an entry level FWD car to compete with the A1.

The end IS in sight. In 3 years. Then in about 20 or 30 years they will be hard to find. Much like the E30 M3 is hard to find.

While this may be true for the entire world, in North America I don't believe that it is true. The One series is only 10% of the sales of the 3 series and the big profits are from sales of the 5 series.

Do we really need another 5 page thread based on a comment from one ill-informed dealer? It's hogwash. With the 3-series moving further and further up-market, they have no choice but to have a lower entry point.
