How much does this suck...

Taken from a c&d article about the next gen 3 series. Speculation at this point, but good grief, I hope it doesn't come to fruition.

Quote:
Ah, but what about the 1-series ? While the next-generation 1er will retain the use of the 3-series platform, rumblings suggest its successor--the third-generation 1-series--will move to a front-wheel-drive architecture. BMW research has shown that many 1-series drivers believe they own a front-driver anyway, and while the fact speaks volumes about the kind of buyers the car attracts, we would then understand the decision to move the 1 to, say, the Mini platform. The move would only serve to enhance the appeal of the 3, which should remain as compelling as ever.

People who think that about the 1 series and end up buying it and still think that should have there cars revoked by BMW and reinstated only after said people have been "reeducated" otherwise they should be lobotomized.

Hope not, if so I won't be buying another 1-er. Nor a 3-series either.

Making the next gen 1-series a FWD would defeat the purpose of making an M version. They may make a FWD 1-series, but I doubt it will be the only option available for the car.

If any of you can't read what it says, it states "That's why we don't have front wheel drives."

So how many of you have been asked if your car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive? I haven't. Where does that supposed "research" come from?

Repost of a repost.

There's already a HUGE thread out there on this rumor of BMW going FWD, and their "research" regarding 1 series drivers...

We all agreed it was a BS figure that BMW is attempting to justify a change to the next 1 series or the 0 series.

Ya'll must remember that the 1 series in Europe are as ubiquitous as Civics are here. Remember not too long ago the announcement that BMW has already delivered its 1 millionth 1 series?

I'm only saying this because as a reflection of this mass appeal for the "cheap" BMW, the vast mojority of 1er owners in Europe are your everyday commuters, not BMW enthusiasts.

And don't forget that the overwhelming majority of those 1ers sold in Europe are family hatchbacks, not coupes and convertibles. The market segment going for them is completely different than the market segment that buys 1ers in the USA.

In my opinion it came straight from some executives ass, as he's trying to justify such an idiotic idea as a FWD BMW.

It's hard for me to even imagine anyone thinking these cars are FWD, let alone a majority. Even my mother (who cares nothing about cars) knows stuff like this.
