Question Best sounding non-v8 for under $150k new?

Me and my mates were having this discussion. I reckon the 5-cyl Audi TT-RS is the most exotic sounding machine followed closely by the new 3.4 Cayman S and the Z435is.

What do you guys reckon?

They are sweet sounding cars, but I still don't mind the sound of a 135i at around 6,000rpm.

I was driving behind a Z4M the other day. Not new but bloody hell that sounded good. Not sure if it was a non-standard exhaust. I think its the same engine as the M3 CSL? which at full pelt down the straight at EC sounded amazing.

Yeah the Z4M sounds great at high rpm. Same (de)tuned engine (S54) as the E46 M3 CSL I think.

I wonder if BMW make a new Z4 M they will use the N55 twin turbo (S55) everyone is speculating about for the new M1.

Previous series 911 Carrera S (from 2005), before they went direct injection which dulled the sound a little.

TT-RS does sound incredible, but I still get shivers when I here that boxter clatter/rumble!

The M3 CSL sounds incredible too, one of the best cars to listen to from inside the car, I think it's the removal of the sound-deadening.

I agree with you on all those cars. The C63 and M3 sound pretty unbelievable too. The M3 sounds unreal when it reaches the high rpm but the AMG sounds like a weapon period.

+ 1

I think with aftermarket exhausts you really unleash the true sound of this sweet twin turbo engine

I'll also throw in the HSV GTS especially with mods. It may not be the best V8 but it does compared to the C63 or M3 but it does demand a strong presence.

Best sounding non v8 in my opinion comes from the 3.2l v6 found in Alfa 147/156 GTA along with the GT. I may be biased since i own one but i think any Alfa with the arese v6 sounds great

With an exhaust like yours, the 135i sounds even better.
