BMW vs other published torque curves

How come the BMW torque curve:

doesn't look like the ones shown by others:
http://www.burgertuning.com/images/N55_dyno_beta.jpg
in particular, the range 1200-2500 rpm (where BMW says it is flat, and other data shows it to be a region of substantially increasing torque). Driving feels less like BMW figure and more like the others (i.e. bit torque ramp up going to 2,500 rpm).
