Sport mode for DCT

Quick question, when you activate sport mode on the DCT, does it remember you enabled it the next time you start the car, or do you have to press the button every time you start up in order to activate sport mode?

Sport mode is off when you first start the car. You have to enable it every time if you want it on. (which i do)

would be nice if a tune would auto enable it each time. It's annoying having to turn it on each time.

True, but I've read that a tune will improve throttle response. So it may not be necessary to have sport mode on all the time anyway.

It defaults to off every time you start the car. Pressing 1 button isn't a chore though!

goeslikeschnell: It quickens the shifts and will hold gears to a higher rpm. It also provides a slightly snappier pedal response. Move the lever to the left for S mode (or M if you shift yourself) and the transmission will hold gears even longer and shift even faster.

The main reason I asked, is because in my parent's X5, the sport mode remains engaged for the next time you start the car.

Just curious, do any of you who are saying you have to press it every time have iDrive?

On 135i it defaults to off when the car boots.

On the manual, it changes the limits for DSC and allows more wheel spin before lowering throttle response on launch.

Press and hold 3 seconds to turn it off.

I think you are referring to the DTC modes...we are talking about the sport mode on the DCT.

From a dead stop you can't launch hard at all without launch control for some reason.
After about a second it takes off pretty hard.
Kinda sucks if you ask me.

In the owners manual it gives you the exact instructions on how to use launch control. Including reminding you that it is impossible for the first 1200 miles because the ECU won't allow it.

1. With the engine running, step on the brake with your left foot.

2. Activate Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) - Press it once, don't hold it down. DTC light will appear on dash.

3. Activate Driving Dynamics Control - Press the Sport button.

4. With the vehicle stationary, activate manual (M) mode and select 1st gear

5. With your right foot, push the accelerator pedal past the resistance point. RPMs will automatically rise to launch control level and the launch control Flag icon will show in the instrument cluster.

6. Take your left foot off the brake and the car will launch, keep the accelerator floored.

7. Automatic upshifting will continue as long as accelerator is fully pressed.

Launch control is not available until you have passed 1200 miles. The computer will simply not allow it. Also, you cannot do repeated launches, there is a minimum distance required between launches with launch control.

The ECU is also pretty picky about the engine being a full operating temp, around 240 deg. It just won't engage. When it does happen, you will know right away.
