2011 135 MT On Lot for Months

Test drove a 2011 135i with MT and regular sport package. Nice ride, but I have concerns because this car appears to have delivered to this dealer in May 2010. I'm a too paranoid? Seems like this configuration would be snatched up quickly unless there's something wrong. May not be relevant, but there are a couple of nasty scratches on the right front wheel apparently from parking too close to a curb. CA said they would, of course, replace the wheel before delivery. Is my concern valid?

I bet it was on the lot for a long time because it's an MT. Most I've seen are steptronics so I would assume the DCTs are selling more than MTs. The general population (non-enthusiasts) prefer not to get an MT.

It should be fine as long as miles are still low.

Nah.....nothing to worry. If it makes you feel better, my local dealership has an 09 M3 sedan fully loaded ($72) Manual Trans.....Brand NEW!!
Manual cars take forever to "move" out of dealerships lots. When the do sell one, The Sales manager buys beer and pizza for everyone the next day!!!!

My 09 sat on the lot for a year before I bought it in June, I was surprised when they thought it wasn't a problem to wait an additional year on the oil change, that certainly isn't happening, just hit 1200 miles, so it'll be going in this week.

My current 08 135 was delivered to a dealer in May and I picked it up in December. So far I didn't have any problems so frequently reported in the forum.

Yes, when I took a deliver, they should jump start the car and it has 45 miles on odometer, the rest was perfect. Since you drove your car I assume the battery in a good shape.

People who buy 1 are already a small group and only manual drivers. It was a reason why my car sat in a lot for long, it was auto and nobody wanted it, so I could buy it for cheap, although I hate auto.

My 135i was on the lot for 5 months before I snatched it up. It was the only manual on the west coast that had 90% of the options I wanted. Wasn't my first, second, or third color choice either, but I didn't want to wait 2 months to order a car.

Not to thread jack but, you should get a free oil change once a year no matter what the mileage is, so if your car sat on their lot for a year, the oil change should be free. Remind the dealership of the warranty.

My dealership "called me" and said I was due for a "warranty" oil change since a year had passed, and I was only at 8000 miles on the car.

That only applies if you're in the U.S.

It is a brand new car as long as it hasn't been registered. Your warranty coverage starts from the date of purchase.

It sounds sad, it looks like dealers order auto for some reason, and then have difficulties to sell cars. If take data of the forum, then you will see opposite proportion, and all guys who drive auto it is just because couldn't find manual in a dealer lot.

It sounds very true. My dealer still has in a lot heavily discounter 09 E63, brand new (just 9 miles on odometer).

The dealer won't get a bonus for selling within 90 days though so expect to pay a little more.

As others have said, MT's don't see as many as automatics and DCT's.
Use it to your advantage and get a good deal.

I bought my 2009, ordering in May 2009. I paid $350 over the Edmunds.com listed invoice, which is usually not the actual BMW invoice that includes ad fees.

For that car you should easily offer $750 below Edmunds listed invoice, and work up from there. Edmunds invoice should be your selling target, especially since a 2010 is now considered a previous model year, and is 1 year old once driven off the lot.

Unless you really want an N54 135i, if the deal doesn't give a good discount then order a 2011 N55.
When I bought, 1 model year older 3 series had nearly a $10k discount.
But, most of them were fully loaded models priced well into the $50's.
Still a great deal though for a fully loaded 3 series buyer, and they were all automatics.
Markets are different across the country.

A local dealer still has a new 09 135i auto on his lot, so it is not just manuals. It lists for over 44k and he is down to 37k on it. I think it was just over optioned for a 1-series and most people want all wheel drive here in the snow belt anyway.

Exactly, I'm currently working my local dear on a 2011 135i with manual. It's the only one there with a manual and has been on the lot for months. So far I'm worked them down $1600 of MSRP. The 135i should be enjoyed with a proper manual, what a driving bliss!!

Funny, my dealer has a bunch of 135 MTs on the lot, but I ordered a DCT. How does that fit in your world view? Oh wait, I know this one, I'm someone that doesn't know how to drive stick right? Sorry, been doing that for 20 years and we currently have 2 MTs in the family that I drive just fine.

I test drove both the MT and the DCT and found (shockingly actually) that I preferred the DCT. After 100 miles or so could I have gotten the shift points down with a MT so it didn't feel like I just learned a stick? Sure, but I recognize that I'll never shift as smooth as the DCT will.

If I went with the 128, no question I would have gotten the MT. If the 135 was still mated to the Step, there's no question that I would have gone with a MT. I have no fear of admitting that the DCT is better than me and will improve my enjoyment of the car.

I won't claim that it's not an automatic like some do (it won't stall, there's no 3rd pedal, it won't go past the red line, and "manual" shifting is not required), but it is an impressive automatic none the less.

you only get free oil changes every year now, if you drive less than 6000 miles

they changed the oil change maintenance agreement on all of us last month

Are you sure it's MTs that are dying, or the number of people who can actually drive them?
