NYPD Crackdown

Anyone else notice a lot more city highway patrols lately? I've been pulled over twice now (doing 64 on the BQE and 70 on the Van Wyck) even though I was just following flow of traffic (There was a corolla 2 car lenghts ahead of me doing just the same speed). I didn't even notice they pulled down the speed limits so low (45MPH on the BQE?!) I've also noticed a lot more people getting pulled over as I drive around nowadays. I thought they were laying off cops, apparently there's plenty of highway patrols. Think its time to invest in a radar detector. Anyone have any recommendations?

yeah these cops are going crazy. I cant mention the massive amount of undercovers in queens now. They usually stay in the city but for the last month they have been creeping. Keep your eyes open for the black chevy 4 door sedans and the black Jeeps --> its easy to spot them as they usually have 4 massive lights in their grills that are easy to spot.

Damn. Where on the BQE were you pulled over? Sorry to hear about this.

BTW I would recommend the V1 though it doesn't defend against laser really (it will alert you when you've been hit, which is too late).

Yep I once got a ticket for 65mph on the BQE which made me aware that it was a 45mph speed limit. Such a bs ticket. The cops are definitely on the prowl a bit more these days.

I see people getting pulled over on the LIE headed to the Midtown Tunnel quite often now. They hide out by the Van Dam exit and the onramp to the Midtown Tunnel.

Getting pulled over on the Van Wyck for 70 is also pretty crazy. I guess I'll probably have to be careful on the Belt Parkway as well, which usually has no cops from the Cross Island Parkway to Cross Bay Blvd.

its always like this during the holiday season, i got pulled over for "speeding" when I was driving at 50mph on the BQE, cop wrote 75, no way I was going 75, impossible, there was traffic!

I got a few tickets same time last year, so this year, im taking my sweet time.

Isn't it really hard to get pulled over on the BQE? No where to hide, unless they're in an unmark car following ... I can understand the LIE. There's massive highway patrol on LIE.

I got pulled over on the BQE on that stretch of road between the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridge. There aren't many spots to hide but they found one. on the van wyck, they tend to hide after the 20th ave exit when coming from the cross island or the whitestone bridge. Unfortunately for this car, doing even 65 feels like your doing 45, so i have to constantly watch the speedo. I set up the speed limit alarm in my iDrive now just to remind me. Can't afford anything until I fight this in court

You know why???? Because we live in a state that BLOWS.

We're practically Bankrupt
Taxes are the highest
The Roads Suck balls

For What????

Do you know what's the worst though...when you pick a friend up at the JFK who actually lives in a nice place, and you go through that semi-embarrassment because the Belt Pkwy is so ghetto.

Dont get me started!!!

As bad as NY is, go check out places like Cali. At least we're not ACTUALLY bankrupt, and our unemployment isn't out of control

I was in LA last weekend, and while the weather was awesome and the roads were incredible, there were more bums in Santa Monica than by Port Authority/times sq. The whole state is so depressed and unemployed that I felt bad shopping for new clothes. Their tax rate (sales tax is 9%, income tax is a whopping 10+%) is worse, and they pay through their noses for gas. 91 octane was $3.99!

But the worst part was the cop situation. There were cops everywhere - on the highways, on small side streets, and on mountain/canyon roads. On one 3-mile stretch of mountain road, I think I saw 3 different cars pulled over at 3 different spots.

Your only legitimate complaint is that the roads suck. All is not bad in NY

its simple you know the city and state for that matter needs money so dont put yourself in a ticket situation. I mean even if you go over the speed limit by 1 mph then you are technically breaking the law as much bs as it may be but in other states its far far worse than NY trust me. Go down south and see if you dont get arrest for the same violations.

45?!?! Jeez. I can't remember ever going under 55 (and I usually go with the traffic)...

Reason your seeing increased NYPD highway patrol activity is because they shut down one of the highway units and reassigned the officers to other existing highway stations. Anyone speeding on NYC streets or highways deserves a ticket for putting their car through that. These streets are disgusting.

Prospect Expressway,- many cars get pulled over, one after another, I have never seen anything like it before, HWY Patrol there is fierce!

Needless to say, Belt PKWY pass Verrazzano Br. before merging to BQE has a Chaser with Laser there permanantly.

There used to be 5 NYPD highway units. They eliminated highway 4 (Manhattan) so all those PO's were split up among the other units.

Meanwhile crime is on the up, police force is on the down and they are now banned from working on vacation time to make some extra money, which means even less cops on the streets. Bagging real criminals isn't as profitable as traffic violations I guess.
