Supposed to be fitted with a Suby designed turbo flat 4cly not too dissimilar to the WRX's etc. Rear drive design. Most i know so far.

Looks pretty good to me. I wonder what price it comes in at and what the engine specs are.

Very interested in this, but it won't be anything like a Supra... So many rumours going around about what engines it's going to use, from 2.0 NA, to 2.5 Turbo I wish they would just tell us!

They were aiming for $40k start point for non turbo version.

I don't know why Toyota feels they need to use a Subaru engine. I mean its not like this is their first ever performance car.

Looks like it could be a good competitor to the 370Z so i'd expect a high performance version to be in the $65K+ price range.

Pretty sure Toyota's parent company owns Subaru so they are joining forces to reduce costs. Also, Subaru will be making their own version of the same car.

It'll look dated the minute it hits the showroom floor. Not a fan.

I'm not convinced. I doubt it'll look dated. However, I think for the price point (SMH article was recently suggesting they were aiming circa $30,000 price point - likely ~$36k) that it will be very "common" and thus the novelty will wear off very quickly. Whilst I think it looks enticing in its current form, I doubt I'd ever purchase one of these because the target market will very likely quickly turn these into "duff duff" cars that look and sound much more impressive than what they truly offer and that will even more quickly detract from any potential interest in the car I may have had.

The beauty of the 135i is that it is beautifully understated. Sexy without being arrogant, and the engine is a hidden weapon. Complete sleeper. This FT-86 will be anything but. 4cyl 2litre NA will offer reasonable performance for the price, but will have nothing against any true sports car.

Agreed, but if they use the STi engine in the premium version it will be VERY hard to beat. EVO X performance probably a little cheaper, but with RWD and the ability to tune easily will make it a 1M killer. I guess all we can do is wait till the final specs are revealed...

It's supposed to be the new AE-86 (RWD Corolla), hence the name.

Bugger the Toyota. I'm more interested in the new Alfa Romeo 4C due in 2012. Rear drive, mid-engined two seater coupe. 2.4m wheelbase, about 4m long, 147kW 1.7L turbo 4cyl petrol engine (up to 173kW for the "hot" version), and only 850kg kerb weight! Sounds like an Italian Lotus Elise. Tasty! Hopefully they'll do it in right-hand drive.

Guran, that thing looks amazing! Wonder how much of the stuff will end up in production. Hope the super lightness stays!

If toyota can bring it to Oz at around $30k like they hope, i would be interested in one for sure.
But my guess is they will look at the rx-8 and 370z and say "yep $60k seems right"
Totally missing the point its supposed to be cheap, light weight and fun.
