Just sent my ECU on a European Holiday
Well the FedEx man just picked up my ECU for delivery to Germany. Since the OE tune didnt eventuate, I have been looking at other tuners (mostly in Europe). After reading a number of threads on 1erforum.de, I have decided on Digi-Tec.
The guy I have been speaking to there, Tino, has been great so far. They are offering a 272hp tune which is around 200kw/330nm and vmax of 255kph (which isnt that important to me as I doubt it will ever see a speed like that). I got a discount due to the shipping costs (which arent that bad - sub $200 for express). I will receive my ECU back next Monday (catching the train for a week wont kill me - only a little on the inside). So I will post the results once I get it back or if I end up a certain creek because a). FedEx lose my ECU b). It gets fried in transit c). the tune doesnt work and my car is %^&ed. Either way, I will update here as it pans out. |

Will do. Fingers crossed that everything goes Ok.
The tune would see a 125i with more hp/nm than a stock 130i, so I'm hoping that the 0-100 times would be closer to 5 seconds. I got the Perf. brakes installed last week so it should be good to go the moment I get the ECU back in. |

True. I wanted to get a dyno a few weeks ago but couldnt get anything organised (been fairly busy lately). So after I got the brakes on and the dollar started to drop I thought "better get this sorted now than when the dollar is at .50 euros".

Maybe run it back to back with a 130i? I am working on something for the 125i's right now, and will have something very soon. Any one in Melbourne want to do some dyno runs? |

Good luck!
I don't think I'd have the kahunas to send my ECU half way around the world. Andrew, I'm up for doing some dyno runs.. Just let me know when and where. |

Wow Steve, gutsy move! I wait in eagerness for your review. Only bummer is you couldn't do a dyno test prior. But surely for such an increase, it should be very noticeable. Have you ever managed to get close to the factory acceleration figures though? I don't recall if yours is manual or auto but I had a damn hard time getting a 15.4 sec quarter mile which I reckon is only about 0 - 100 kph in 7 seconds or way off the official 6.4 seconds quoted. I tried lots of techniques but maybe I need to be alot rougher on the car haha! I would love to see a NA 125i get down to 5.X seconds!
Andrew, I'd also be interested in hearing about what you may have in the works...

what made you choose digi-tec over ds-motorsport or wintertuning? (all roughly the same power output, so just curious) |

They seem to be very confident in their software tunes that they offer a warranty (to those in the EU). That to me confirms that it is a safe tune. They also offer the 272PS (200kw) as a minimum, which is 10kw more than the tunes in the USA (258PS, 190kw) I was trying to get. The dyno they sent me also looked pretty good in comparison (I will post it up when get my car up and running). |
