Newest mod just arrived from the US
Finally I received my new ETS intercooler for my 135. I have kept many logs with my stock cooler so will be interesting to see what sort of drop in IAT's this ETS will provide. Will install over the weekend and keep you all posted as to how it all goes.

I've done quite a lot of research into coolers and the ETS isn't all that much bigger than the stock cooler but it's more efficient and better flow.

LOL! When my 4 year old saw that foam he dived straight in, lucky I removed contents first. Kinda what I wanted to do this morning when it arrived on my doorstep. |

I've read most FMIC's require a bit of cutting, but some are very minor so as to be indistinguishable from stock unless you knew exactly what to look for. Have been eyeing off a HPF unit myself...

Hey Matty, I also was interested in the HPF large 7" but I don't really track the car so I decided against it. I'll know more details in a few days when I install.

So I couldn't wait for the weekend and installed the Intercooler last night. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Was interesting. They say it takes aprrox 1.5 hours so I figured I would double that just in case I run into any problems. Removing the old cooler only took about 30 minutes but trying to break those permanent clamps on each side was a hell of a job. 2 clamps took about an hour in total. Removing the original pipe leading to the charge pipe was another issue. It was so tight in there it took another 30 minutes to remove this pipe. The silicon couplers that it came with were really good and nice heavy duty clamps also. 'I thought there was no trimming' That's BS, as you can see in the images the amount of bumper support I removed. I got a little excited and removed more than what I needed but I thought while I'm there may as well. Now I had the couplers in place I used WD40 to lube them as I inserted the cooler. Cooler when in without much hesitation and secured it with the two torx screws on each side while I tighted the clamps. Finally after just over 4 hours I was done. Now the fun part, take her for a test drive. I hooked up the laptop and instantly the IAT was far less than usual even while cruising. As I knew I was getting a cooler I monitored my IAT's closely for over 6 weeks. I've attached a log with stock IC that I did about 3 days ago and one with ETS IC from last night. Weather was approx the same about 17 degrees outside. You can see the huge drop in IAT's with the ETS IC. I could definitely feel the diference with the new cooler. I think I may have gained about 15-20rwhp but it feels like a hell of a lot more. Next is the dyno.

Well congrats on the new mod, JB. I was considering the 5" as I think that'll be all I need even with the odd track day. I'll be measuring IAT's with the stock cooler in August when I next go around with the club.

Thanks Matty. This is the 5". I really think it's more than enough. No need to go for 7" unless your 1er lives on the track.

Core and tank ends look very similar to the VK Motorworks one I have (don't think they are sold anymore).
One thing I was always happy not to do was cut the OEM couplers, makes going back to stock a 10min job

lol only got it recently, I did dyno my car on map 2 with my listed mods less the fmic and it came in at 252kw atw. I am happy with that considering map 2 is 14.5psi. Our progress is actually pretty similar from what I can see I can only do some after logs but ill do them and send them your way soon.

Looks subtle but aggressive installed. Reading your build threads is bad for my wallet
IATs look pretty promising, but I'm wary on doing any trimming on my car. Going to meth anytime soon?
