well in the M3 u have a M-dct in my mind its like .3or.4 faster than 135 dct but you would never know if you didnt drive the M3. Torque wise I hear it can handle upwards of 400wtq

From my understanding it is a different transmission. The reason why the transmission cannot handle past 360-400wtq is completely due to the clutch slipping from my understanding. There was a whole post about it that I cannot seem to find.

My understanding is that it doesn't change gears unless you hit the paddle. |

So I am not sure about your experience, but if you are going sideways and it shifts it is basically like backing off the throttle. The cars back end will just come straight or if you are not drifting you will just slow down. Not exactly the biggest problem, but it would most definitely jack up your lap times. However regular automatics work in the same way with regards to shifting.

Yes it will down shift automatically if your foot is off the gas and slowing down. I haven't tried it but I suspect if it automatically up shifts at the red line it is more like the engine hits the rev limiter and then it shifts.

If you're going sideways in first gear it's not really doing to do much. Now third gear to 4th could be an issue. |

Also it is better to shift yourself according to what shiv said in his testing. He said if you let the car shift itself at redline you will see boost loss/throttle closure...but if you shift yourself you will see zero boost loss/throttle closure.

The m3 dct does the same thing if u ever push the paddle down all the way u can feel a click that click pretty much shifts you into next gear . Going side way lets see i havent had any issues i have 4,500 miles on my tires and i almost need new tires on the 135 so im going sideways alot you see. =)

BMW only needed to make sure the DCT could handle the power levels they threw at it. They either didn't put a DCT on the 1m because of price or because they felt it couldn't reliably handle the extra power and overboost. I doubt M or bmw would tell you either way in an official manner. If you you did the ED like one of the 1addicts members, they could probably be a little more open about it in person since it wouldn't be official.
