This is how you do business...
Let me tell you a story...
A month or so ago, I made up my mind to lease a new 2011 M3 Coupe. As a first-time car buyer (leasor), I knew I had to learn a lot so I started reading the forums daily and e-mailing people tons of questions. I finally decided on a build and went to a few dealers in town to compare offers. I got a pretty competitive offer and before I agreed to it, I contacted Ryan Amico at Steve Thomas BMW to see what he could offer me. The location of the local dealers (I'm in Minneapolis, Ryan is in Southern California) and the lack of a MACO fee with local dealers led me to choose that route. Ryan was super responsive, helpful and honest; he told me I had gotten a great deal and I should go for it. When the real numbers came out, however, I noticed a lot of discrepancies between what the local dealer and I had agreed to. For example, he marked up the MF by 0.0004, claimed BMW FS did it and that he couldn't do anything about it. He increased other fees like raising the Acquisition Fee from $725 to $925, adding a Document Fee of $75, etc. and claimed it was all coming from BMW FS and/or it is a standard fee (we had agreed to $725 Acquisition and no Document Fee). Frustrated, I decided to start over... Then I remembered my conversation with Ryan... Ryan mentioned if I had any other questions down the road, I should give him call. I called him and asked about these so-called "standard fees" that BMW FS was telling my local dealer I had to pay. He told me the truth and we figured out that the local dealer was trying to make an additional ~$2,000 off of me. Long story short, I just placed an order with Ryan today and will be picking up my 2011 BMW M3 Coupe from the PCD this summer (which, coincidentally, is 1200 miles to the dot from my Minneapolis home ). Ryan gave me the same deal as he originally offered (which was very competitive to begin with) and when we worked out the numbers, everything tied and the numbers matched my own calculations. This is how you do business. You treat the customer with respect and keep his interests ahead of yours. In the end, you will succeed. In this case, a dealer who did the right thing was ultimately rewarded by winning the sale, even though he is thousands of miles away from the customer. It's no wonder Ryan is so highly regarded on these forums. Thanks for everything Ryan! ksh937 P.S. Is it June yet? Last edited by ksh937; 04-15-2011 at 03:25 PM.. He's a Demigod. He also doesn't have the recessive "Salesperson" gene.

Ryan is the man!
I had a similar story and Ryan kept it honest from the get-go. I felt more at ease even knowing that I would put an additional 1400 miles on the car driving her from the dealership he works at to home! |

I'm also in MN and am curious if you went to both Minnetonka and Bloomington dealers. Did you check with the one in Rochester as well? Where did you have the bad experience?
I'm looking at an E92 in Spring 2012, so starting to look at all the options. |

Just a point of clarification: BMWFS is the lessor. You're the lessee.
Nice to hear that good, honest business practices and strong communication added-up to a sale for a board sponsor. |
